.@RepJimmyPanetta's dad, @LeonPanetta12 and his pals. The first newspaper intro to the dreamy story of First Cabin Ltd - a massive operation that moved dope, guns, and money between Monterey County and South America.

$985 million was laundered through the accounts at Dean Witter
2/

That was nearly $4 BILLION dollars of illegal trafficking ill-gotten gain in 2021 dollars.

Imagine how much money made its way to local politicians and cops and newspaper people?

Because the story was kept VERY QUIET.

... by 2011 @BarackObama names Panetta DIR of CIA.
3/

More write ups from 1979 - complete and total bs. What was published in '79 was a public relations nuanced story of a love of fishing - the boats were financed with $11,000,000 dollars from a "network" of interests.

This was an example of fake news. 1979 style.

The boat

operators were close with Congressman Leon Panetta, at the time.

First Cabin was a popular name on Cannery Row.

1944.

What is being lost, it seems to me, in the destruction of the newspaper, is the loss of reporting. Decades later all this reporting takes on new and interesting meaning.

For instance Sebastian Sollecito was listed here as a businessman opening up a new cannery on the row
2/

In 2006 Mr. Sollecito died from old age - but his $100,000,000 (thats one hundred million dollar) estate lived on. It came under dispute in 2008 after Mr. Sollectito's wife was getting manipulated by a guy named Ronnie Bush - and $1.8 million was used to make a bogus run at
3/

Dr. Dre's Death Row Records 😂 (everyone knows it was Tupac's catalog that pumps cash into Death Row corporate).

@Schwarzenegger real estate commissioner and his brother Anthony were somehow involved but our local reporters didn't bother to look. Wasn't a good story.

Imagine you ran for Board of Supervisors - it would be an uphill battle because the big money interests were backing your opponent @stevemcshane. Your campaign was - "I'm the real Democrat"

Then, within a month you are meeting with a criminally investigated PAC. That's
what @SupervisorAskew has lowered herself to in meeting with this group. There is no benefit to Monterey County residents by meeting with this corrupt group.

Brian Finegan is a perjurer. He is a co-founder of SVLG. Don Chapin is a bully. Just ask Professor
Mercurio of Hartnell College who had to get tough with Chapin who tried to bully the Hartnell Professor, Chapin had hired as an expert witness.

The list of sleazy knows no limit.

... and @SupervisorAskew just became one of them.

Her husband is an architect. Maybe she sees

"The violations here were isolated as the committee AND WAYLAND have not bad prior enforcement history"

@CA_FPPC - yes Wayland has had prior enforcement history. Stephen Collins Don Chapin & Scheid Wineries "loans" not disclosed $7,000 fine. Wayland was Collins' accountant.

Wendy, "the Progressive" became Pandering Wendy to @SVLGroup (a PAC under local, state & federal investigation for corruption) as the newly elected official who went out of her way to bow to the powerful and ridiculously right-wing political action committee in MoCo.
3/

Dave Drew, the narco-trafficker pardoned (wrongly) by @JerryBrownGov, has been a dues paying member since the group began.

In essence, @WendyRootAskew just pandered to a right wing PAC because @RepJimmyPanetta's amoral consultant Plasha Will asked her to.

In 2014 @mcweekly's @maryrduan wrote about some of the Steve Bernal criminal overstepping that was taking place.

The 2020 rape convicted political consultant Fickas was coordinating kids in Salinas Union High School District and Alisal to get kids to do their dirty work.
2/

It was through these corrupt political operations, funded with Dark Money, coming from the usual suspects and working their way through to pay for child labor.

The person paying for this Op in part?

Plasha Will, @RepJimmyPanetta's paid consultant. Previously with Sam Farr.
3/

Plasha Will coordinated payments to this crew from Supervisor John Phillips (and others) campaign accounts.

Beyond @CA_FPPC violations that were never fully investigated - there are probably federal civil rights violations, this shit was pre-Trump but right outta

This performance by @supervisoraskew is an embarrassment to the rule of law in Monterey County. Askew steps in it here.

With both feet.

"SVLG Event with Supervisor Wendy Root Askew"

This one room shanty on Garden Rd by the airport is where
2/

is where the only remaining daily newspaper in Monterey County operates.

This is what hedge funds have done to your daily newspaper in community after community.

You know who doesn't like newspapers? Guys like Don Chapin and Bruce Taylor. Rich kids who inherited their $$
3/

What does Don Chapin get out of his involvement with "political leaders" in Monterey County?

Juicy public works jobs.

Right @HaffaAlan?

This is CA State Senator @CASenCaballero in 2001 when I confronted the @CityofSalinas regarding @SalinasPD promotional process that led to terrible promotions because the entire process was rigged & not on merit. They used this to promote people who looked the other way on
2/

clearly criminal conduct within the City of Salinas - where Caballero was just starting out as a new Mayor.

Ultimately @Kelly_McMillin was a beneficiary of this rigged promotional process, becoming chief in 2012 and retiring to work in in #marijuana in 2016/17.
3/

McMillin associated with known narco-traffickers as a police chief.

That was Anna Caballero's corrupt influence on Monterey County law enforcement. It wasn't the beginning and it isn't the end, but the unprecedented corruption experience in Monterey County - largely
