It’s time. It’s time for Texas.

It’s now officially 2 weeks since blue check media, experts & politicians absolutely lost their minds about Texas removing their mask mandate.

Unsurprisingly, cases are down -29% in the two weeks since.

They were wrong. Again. As always.
This thread is going to be obscenely long, and there’s a second one coming, but trust me, it could be so, SO much longer. The amount of devastating idiocy, deranged hyperbole, gaslighting and incompetence we’re all about to experience together is just…beyond description.

Enjoy!
Let’s start with your favorite Governor and mine, Gavin Newsom, who went for the simple, superior: “Absolutely reckless”.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles has some of the worst numbers in the country, despite following all of Newsom’s rules.

Someone’s reckless Gavin, but it’s not Texas.
Gregg Popovich, America’s favorite political commentator/basketball coach blasted the lifting of the mandate as “ridiculous” and “ignorant”.

Wonder if the sycophantic NBA press will ask any follow up questions about this?
A Texas ICU nurse got CNN attention (lol naturally) by saying that she was seeing a light at the end of the Covid tunnel, but that’s now “shut down” after hearing that Abbott was lifting the mandate.

Reminder, cases are down -29% in only two weeks.

Better look harder!
This blue check got over 45,000 likes by comparing re-opening Texas to the Mayor from Jaws

I know that these people are blissfully unaware that many states have “re-opened” or never had mask mandates and are doing just fine, but their consistent ignorance never ceases to amaze
I mean…just look at this.

I described the hyperbole as deranged earlier, but again…not sure that there are words to describe just how completely and utterly insane this is.
You knew that if bad predictions were involved, our Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Anthony Fauci, would feel left out if he didn’t contribute.

It’s just “inexplicable” why you’d want to pull back now, he says.

Of course, what’s actually inexplicable is why anyone listens to him.
I think my favorite part of this one is the MSNBC anchor nodding along to this lunacy, as @BetoORourke calls lifting masks and restrictions equivalent to being part of a “death cult”

The self-congratulatory attitude as they affirm each other’s insanity is just…chef’s kiss.
Wanted to continue on Beto, as he said it was “not hyperbole” to say that the Texas Governor is “sacrificing the lives of our fellow Texans”.

This really belongs in a museum. Future generations need to understand the level of stupidity we lived with in 2020-21.
@MMFlint predictably joined in with this beauty, getting over 42,000 likes by saying Texas didn’t need “our precious vaccine” and it should go to those “saving lives by wearing masks”.
This blue check @davidmweissman stupidity is honestly offensive. Equating the nursing home disaster, months of lying and cover ups to removing (useless) mask mandates and business restrictions is just…a new low of human thought.
@MonicaGandhi9 really is one of the best experts out there on Covid, but even the best have an extremely hard time letting go of masks.

It is the time, Monica. It’s the time. It’s always been the time. Because they don’t actually matter.
This MD and public health policy lecturer, at Yale, @jameshamblin, equated lifting of restrictions to “entering the last miles of a marathon and taking off your shoes and eating several hot dogs”.

They can never just acknowledge that their assumptions were wrong. It’s impossible
Unsurprisingly, @kurteichenwald combined his delusions with variant panic, even trying to start an #AbbottVariant hashtag, because of course he did.

He’s the best.
Kurt, a founding member of the #BlueAnon movement also described Abbott as “murderous and incompetent”

This is where we pause to again remind everyone that cases are down -29% since the mask mandate ended
@WhitneyEpi said she was “genuinely sad” because of “avoidable infections” due to lack of masks and restrictions.

New Jersey has reported 47 cases per 100k over the past week, Texas has reported 12.
Another expert said simply, “now is not the time for this”. Because there never is a “time for this” in the world of public health. Cause when restrictions end and nothing happens, people might start to question why their profession is so bad at their literal one job.
I’m exhausted at this point, and I’m sure you are too, so just enjoy this insanity from @BillKristol
I know no one will be surprised to see that @KeithOlbermann joined w/Michael Moore, saying that Texas shouldn't get vaccinations because they decided to “join the side of the virus”

The absolute certainty with which they deliver deranged nonsense is a sight to behold
Expert @Bob_Wachter described Texas’s mask decision as
“unforgivable”.

Again, what’s unforgivable is that anyone listens to people like this.
Anyone shocked that Michael Osterholm wanted to throw his hat in the ring for most consistently incorrect expert with a “we’re opening up and inviting the virus in” line to a nodding Jake Tapper?
Of course, I had to include this gem from the President, who described ending mask mandates as “Neanderthal thinking”.

There is just…so much I want to say about this, but instead I’ll repeat again, cases are down -29% & New Jersey’s case rate is currently 292% higher than Texas
And I have to close with your favorite & mine, @DrEricDing

Poor Eric wanted to “vomit so bad” at seeing the news. Naturally, a surge was now “inevitable” & in a separate tweet said it’s “certifiable insanity”

As always, he maintains his unblemished track record of idiocy
This is what they do. And they never apologize or revisit or adjust their opinions when proven wrong. They just keep doing it, over and over and over again to a nodding TV anchor

It’s infuriating and horrifying and frustrating, and I really don’t know if it will ever end.

No one, I repeat, NO ONE, does a better job of spreading unnecessary panic than Austria’s own @DrEricDing

He’s made it his personal mission to spread variant panic around B.1.1.7 in Florida over the past month+, only to be proven, unsurprisingly, wrong again.

⚠️ Thread time!
Eric, who is not an epidemiologist, said he didn’t want to be “that epidemiologist dude” who has to remind Ron DeSantis “that he has a civic responsibility to stop the outbreak of #B117 in his state & ints spread to rest of 🇺🇸”

Cases in Florida are down -31% since this tweet

The blue check meltdown over Texas removing its mask mandate was so extensive, I literally couldn’t fit all of the insanity into one thread

So this is Thread #2, The Celebrity Edition!

Do we think any of them know that cases are down -29%?

Lol that was rhetorical, come on now
Gotta start it off on a high note with @BradleyWhitford coming in hot with more “GOP is a death cult” loveliness
I will say, I admire the simplicity of this one. I mean sure, it was completely wrong, but it was brutally efficient in its inaccuracy.

Israel’s another fun example of the comprehensive failure of masks

Back in June, experts from Cambridge said “routine face mask use” from only 50% of the public could flatten “future waves”

In EVERY SINGLE SCENARIO, 50% compliance worked to flatten the curve

Whoops
An Oxford professor praised their conclusions and said masks “are likely to be an effective population measure”.

It is a masterpiece of expert failure…their unbelievable ignorance, incompetence, groupthink, and an inability to acknowledge their own mistakes.
Here’s an article summarizing their unwavering commitment to pseudoscience.

Not since World War I have we seen this attitude so prevalent among the ruling class; a fundamental dissociation with reality in order to avoid admitting they were wrong

So ignoring that the CDC’s latest “study” is a trainwreck, their assertion is that mask mandates are associated with a 0.5% increase in the rate of decrease in Covid cases

Have we checked with Redfield if that still qualifies as better protection than a vaccine?
Seriously though, masks were sold as the single most important intervention, the single most important public health tool, and the best they could do is torture the criteria to a 0.5% increase in the rate of decrease?
Really though, the @CDCgov got what they wanted, headline news in the media saying masks work and restaurants are dangerous. It’s never about accuracy or detail, just about graphics they can use to sell their failed policies

On 11/22, Fauci went on CBS (shocking) and said mitigation measures “can blunt curves” into the colder season. What measures? Mask wearing, closing bars & capacity limits, of course.

LA County had already done all of that and went even further.

It did not blunt the curve ImageImage
You’d think at some point, he’d have to make something remotely approaching an accurate statement, but he just never does and he’s never called out for how demonstrably wrong he is.
You heard him, look at the numbers, look at the facts

The numbers and facts are that he was wrong. Again. As always. Image

Of all of the misinformation the devastatingly incompetent @CDCgov has posted, this might be the worst. Unsurprisingly reprehensible behavior.

Beyond everything else, they associated statewide mandates with County level data, which makes zero sense.

cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/7…
For example, in California, counties like Los Angeles had mask mandates starting in early April. But in this horrific “study” they wouldn’t start their “reference” period until the middle of June, with the statewide mandate.

It’s just flat out dishonest.
The time periods they used are just…unbelievable. For masks, they say cases and deaths slowed within 20 days, for restaurants they used 41-100 days for cases and 61-100 days for deaths. Why? Because they’re trying to sell an agenda, not tell the truth.
