Kaushav Sanyal, a karate instructor, is imparting ‘unarmed martial arts’ training to girls.
The father of an eight-year-old decided to train girls after being shocked by an incident of gangrape and murder in South 24 Paragans, West Bengal. He said that the training could help girls to be their own saviours.
“To protest and resist injustice is every girls’ right. Defend yourself first. This is how a girl can protect herself from such an encounter,” he said.
Sanyal has trained over 50,000 girls for free and had introduced ‘Mission Swayamsiddha’ in December 2015, where he began imparting self-defence training to girls of several schools, colleges of Birbhum, Hooghly and Burdwan districts.
As the crime against women is rising in the country, Sanyal believes in making girls well equipped in self-defence can come to their rescue.
