Diversity and fairness in peer review require non academic peer reviewers. @CSRpeerreview
Women, esp. minority women, report a higher threshold for establishing credibility amongst their peers per Dr. Byrnes. Dr. Byrnes commented that this is sad, and I totally agree.
Please fix this biased working group that is devoid of participants from industry, @CSRpeerreview. When you only obtain feedback from academia and the intramural program, you are introducing the very bias you are trying to address.
F: Female
URM: underrepresented minority
B/AA: Black/African American
These slides will be available after the meeting via the following URL: public.csr.nih.gov/AboutCSR/Organ…
Point being made:

If you are only allowing NIH funded PIs to do peer review, you aren’t really broadening the pool of people to bring into the peer review process.
That’s a great point, and keep in mind that women and minorities are underfunded by @NIH.
There aren’t enough data for URMs and B/AAs. There are more data available for females versus males in @CSRpeerreview.
I once suggested this to @CSRpeerreview, but there’s no way to blind reviewers to applicants due to exclusive IP and biosketches. There’s no way for someone like me to hide my and/or my company’s identity. The only solution is double unblinding, @NIHDirector. @CSRpeerreview
That’s enough of that. It’s very frustrating to see so many mistakes being made. I will check the rest of the slides later this week.

This list price is more than double the ICER valuation on the CAR. I don’t think the European health authorities are going to green light this CAR at this price. I don’t see Europe paying over $200,000/dose since they don’t care about @NIH fees and/or royalties. $BLUE $BMY
This also highlights a much bigger problem with CARs, esp. for solid tumors. It’s a problem we have always prepared for at SES but could hurt our competitors that plan to charge over $400,000/dose. In solid tumors, if the CARs aren’t curative, they have to be really cheap!
The CARs won’t be curative in solid tumors initially — esp. for the first CARs approved for solid tumors — so companies that think they can charge $400,000+/dose are going to be in for a rude awakening. It’s hard to justify that price tag for next gen CARs. #CARTcells

I am going to add FDA BPCA trial design SME assembly participant to my biosketch. It’s close to being on a working group.

I kept my camera off today as I have wet hair from my shower. I recall Marisa Mayer being criticized for going to a meeting with wet hair, and hence, I kept my camera off. I will ensure I’m camera ready for the next assembly meeting.

Random thought of the day: cosmetic producers for the most part remain clueless when it comes to the environment. Case in point is the new @jaclyncosmetics packaging. If companies don’t start choosing more sustainable packaging, they are going to lose customers IMHO.
I don’t care if your packaging is pretty; the only people who care about that are the YouTube influencers. I do care if your packaging is going to take hundreds of years — if not more — to break down in a landfill.
Large, clunky polymer based compacts are the worst. I am increasingly trying to avoid brands that use this type of packaging.

If @bluebirdbio gets away with a list price that’s double the ICER valuation, does that mean that the Jansen BCMA CAR will cost over $1M/dose once it’s approved by FDA? Paging @RepKatiePorter and her whiteboard. #CARTcells
I really hope @nytimes doesn’t call me again. If I have anything to say, it will be posted here on my timeline as always.

The newly approved $BLUE BCMA CAR is in-licensed from @theNCI.

Slow cooker marinara sauce attempt 1. ImageImage
I hope this is good as I am planning on freezing part of this batch for future use.
I accidentally set the cooker to HIGH when it’s supposed to cook on LOW for 8 hours. I caught the error before the batch was ruined.
