Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) announces he has vetoed HB 1570, the bill that would restrict care for trans youth.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) calls HB 1570 a “vast government overreach”:
“While in some instances the state must act to protect life, the state should not presume to jump into the middle of every medical, human, and ethical issue.”
Of note: Hutchinson is popular in the state and holds significant power over his party, but the Arkansas Legislature can override a veto with a simple majority so the bill is far from dead.
UPDATE: Arkansas lawmakers vote to override Gov. Hutchinson's veto of HB 1570.
