@Hadithoftheday Sighting of New Moon.

Allah says in Qur'an:
“So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month”

[al-Baqarah 2:185]
@Hadithoftheday Allah says in Qur'an:
“They ask you (O Muhammad) about the new moons. Say: These are signs to mark fixed periods of time for mankind and for the pilgrimage”

[al-Baqarah 2:189]
@Hadithoftheday It is obligatory to fast when the sighting of the moon is confirmed, even if it is seen by only one trustworthy Muslim.
Ibn Umar said: “The people went out to sight the new moon and I told the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that I had seen it, so he fasted and told the people to fast.”
@Hadithoftheday The month of Ramadan begins according to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the actual Sighting of the moon. This means a human eye has to ‘see’ the crescent of Ramadan.
@Hadithoftheday Ibn Umar R.A reported that Allah's Messenger ﷺ as saying:

Do not fast till you see the new moon, and do not break fast (stop fasting) till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy calculate about it. (Bukhari, Muslim)
@Hadithoftheday Thus if the moon is ‘born’ but is behind the clouds. It is present. Yet if we cannot see it, we are not supposed to start fasting, even if it is there behind the clouds as Allah says in Qur'an:
So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month,let him fast it
(Al-Baqara 2: Verse 185)
@Hadithoftheday Aisha R.A said:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to treat Shaa’ban as he treats no other month. He would then fast for sighting (the moon) of Ramadhan. Whenever he could not sight it, he would count thirty days (for Shaa’ban) and then start the fast.” [Abu Dawood]
@Hadithoftheday The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ even taught us the dua to recite when we see the new moon.

When the Prophet ﷺ saw the crescent moon, he would say, “O Allah, bring it over us with blessings and faith, safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.” - (Tirmidhī 3451)
@Hadithoftheday Arabic version of the supplication upon seeing the new crescent:
اللَّهُمَّ أَهْلِلْهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْيُمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّہ

@Hadithoftheday No.
