365 days ago:

I hit 1000 followers but had 0 online income.

Today:

I have 23800 followers and a 6 figure performance coaching business.

Here are the 3 biggest lessons I've learned along the way:

(A THREAD)
Lesson 1: Stop taking yourself so seriously.

When I started creating content, I took things way too seriously.

I come from an engineering background and I now talk about science.

I was being too much like Ben Stein when I should've been more like Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Seeing things that were incorrect or misleading would irritate me and I'd get into arguments.

This made me come across as a stuck-up geek.

I mean, I called myself Improvement Geek back then, but...

I didn't realize that wasn't a good thing.
I was pretty cringe, to be honest.

But you either die cringe or live long enough to become based.

Over time, I've learned to

• laugh at myself when I make mistakes
• stop caring when I think others are wrong
• laugh at others when they try arguing with me
Taking myself too seriously also hurt my creative ability.

I'd waste way too much time stressing about getting every little detail perfect.

At the time, I didn't realize perfection is actually kind of offputting.

I gradually started letting things be rough around the edges.
This leads me to lesson #2:

Take action even if you don't feel ready.

ESPECIALLY if you don't feel ready.

Where would I be if I waited until I felt ready to start creating content or coaching people?

I'd have no followers, no business, and no successful clients.
In your mind:

You're saving yourself and others by not taking action until you're ready.

In reality:

You're hurting yourself and others by not giving them the value you have to give.

Imperfect action beats perfect inaction.
I've helped countless people with my free content.

I've transformed the lives of numerous clients.

But if I waited until I was "ready" or had some degree or certification before I started...

I wouldn't have helped anyone.

A year later, I probably still wouldn't have.
Have I made mistakes?

Yes. Of course I have.

But, I've also learned from those mistakes and gotten better because of them.

The longer you avoid failure, the longer you'll be avoiding success.

Success rarely comes without struggle.

And even when it does, it's meaningless.
Taking yourself less seriously and taking more action leads to...

Lesson #3: Network, network, network.

I wouldn't be where I am without my network.

I feel absolutely no shame in admitting that.

The relationships I've formed over the past year are incredible.
I especially want to give a shoutout to:

@thedankoe
@OneJKMolina
@YouActualized
@bronzeleciaga
@ROGUEWEALTH

Excellent people who have changed my life.

I never called anyone "brother" until I got to know them.
People ask me "how do you build a network?"

Great question.

You can't force it.

It has to be organic.

It's easy for people to sense when you're just trying to slide in their DMs so you can use them.

Or when you're just tagging @naval for clout.
But here are a few ways you can help facilitate relationships:

• reply to people's tweets with VALUE - don't just reword what they had just said
• DM or contact them to introduce yourself and start a conversation
• join communities of people doing what you're doing
A great community to join is Masterclass 24/7.

It has hundreds of members and ten experts sharing info daily.

I'm one of the experts - I share content every day about peak performance and also answer community questions.

THREAD
Time is the most precious resource.

Time management is THE most important skill you can have in life and business.

"It's the only thing you can't buy. I mean, I can buy anything I want basically but I can't buy time.”

- Warren Buffet, rich dude and hero of Money Twitter
1) SCHEDULING

A schedule is like a budget for your time.

If you don't have a budget, you're wasting money.

Are you stuck on something in your business or personal life?

Do you feel like the gears in your brain are locked up and can't move?

I've been there. It sucks. Here's how to get UNSTUCK.

[ A THREAD ]
What do you do when you get stuck?

If you're like most people, you push on.

Either you make progress, OR you beat yourself up for your lack of progress.

You blame yourself. You think you're weak. Lazy. Worthless.
You exhaust and frustrate yourself.

You get worn down and don't feel like doing other things.

You beat yourself up for that, too.

You're stuck because you never give yourself a break.

"If you want to master something, teach it"

~ Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman

A sensible quote, sure... but what does it mean?

Feynman had a special way to learn FAR more than his peers

Here's how you can use the legendary "Feynman Technique" yourself:

(THREAD)
Step 1) Teach it to a child

Imagine you're going to explain what you know about your chosen topic to a 12-year-old

You'd have to use simple words and concepts, right?

Yes - that's exactly the point
As Albert Einstein (another pretty smart dude) said:

If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough

To be able to explain something SIMPLY, you must first understand it DEEPLY

If you have to use jargon and technical terms, you don't understand it well yet

Self-doubt is killing you.

But NO LONGER.

Here's how you can easily overcome self-doubt.

< thread >
Self-doubt is a survival mechanism.

Your brain's #1 job is to KEEP YOU ALIVE.

It's evolved a system to avoid perceived threats.

When you're threatened, your brain responds to keep you safe.
One of the most threatening things is UNCERTAINTY.

When you're faced with a new situation, like:

- a new job

- new people

- starting a new hobby/business

That new situation is unfamiliar. It's uncertain.

It's THREATENING.
