1/5: The words of the “health freedom” antiscience disinformation lobby. Let’s take this apart....
2/5: 1) There are no deaths resulting from the US COVID19 vaccination program. VAERS data is grossly misunderstood and deliberately misinterpreted
3/5: Part of the Trump White House disinformation campaign that ramped up around this time last year, artificially reduced mortality rates from COVID19 by falsely attributing the deaths to the comorbidities rather than the virus infection. This was amplified by the political R
4/5: The sheep of course are the adherents of a false belief system that discredits masks social distancing and vaccines. The sheep are now herded together each weekday evening to have their antiscience defiance reinforced by 2 Fox News anchors
5/5: The vaccine mandates are their latest dog whistle to alert the sheep dogs

Tonight on ⁦@PamelaBrownCNN⁩ I explained that emerging data finds that all of the US COVID19 vaccines work well vs the B.1.1.7 variant now accelerating across the country. The other variants having an additional E484K mutation, not so much, but.. Image
But these other variants of concern for now are of secondary importance to B.1.1.7 in the US. Later the E484K VOCs from South Africa or Brazil may become an issue in the US and for that except one-time boosters later this year or in 2022.
In the meantime all attention must focus on B.1.1.7 now making young people sick, that’s why expanded EUA for adolescents 12-15 yo is important. Last time VRBPAC was not unanimous about the 16 and 17 year olds, we’ll see how they feel about adolescents

1/4: Interesting observation: New Hampshire leads the nation in COVID19 immunizations, almost one-half of the population has received a single dose of vaccine, yet the cases continue to rise, currently one of the most affected areas of the US. Some hypotheses why:
2/4: is it because most of the jabs are in older population, so that transmission still rampant among younger groups? Interesting that deaths down but hospitalizations still significant
3/4 Or a single dose dose doesn’t do much in terms of halting transmission, that requires full immunization with 2 doses?

Periodically I RT @AuschwitzMuseum the most important Twitter to follow. My grandfather Morris Goldberg escaped the Jewish Quarter in Paris, Rue de Rosiers ahead of this, those left behind were sent to Drancy. Read “Last of the Just” Schwarz-Bart. Montreal Canada welcomed him
He said Maurice, we said Morris, but many called him Moishe. A great man, lived until his 90s, street smarts, uneducated formally but smart as hell, loved the @CanadiensMTL as do I to this day, and his Philip Morris cigarettes, oh well...
Some asked where did “Hotez” come from. We don’t really know, my grandparents on my dad’s side were “Galitzianers” Austria 🇦🇹 Poland 🇵🇱 Ukraine 🇺🇦 Hungary 🇭🇺 depending on the war. Maybe originally possibly “Chodetz” or something like that.

Unsure about a 9/11 commission. I was disappointed in House Select Committee last year: Members were not briefed, they either tossed softball questions on the science or politically-charged questions. No intellectual curiosity about what truly happened
thebulwark.com/we-need-a-9-11…
To really understand why we lost 555,000 Americans we need to do a deep dive in things that require some sophistication in science for instance.....
1) Why did we miss the entry of the virus from Europe into NYC at the end of January or early February. Why did it take until March 1 to diagnose the first case of COVID-19 in NYC? This created our first terrible wave. That was something far beyond politics.

Actually no: the disparity began earlier when science policy decisions were made to focus primarily on innovation at the expense of developing cheap, traditional technologies that could be scaled for LMICs. We’re now working to fill that gap, and with some progress
The new technology vaccines so far can be made in quantities sufficient for North America Europe, but not yet for billions of doses required for SubSaharan Africa (1.1 billion people), Latin America (650 million people), poor Asian countries (400 million). We need 4 billion doses
Hopefully ours can make a difference and help fill the gap

Many thanks ⁦@chucktodd⁩ for hosting me ⁦@MeetThePress⁩ discussing the new ⁦@WHO⁩ report on COVID19 origins + why i think more is needed to trace how it began in terms of animal origins. For instance new ⁦@ScienceMagazine⁩ paper tracing it back to October
Here’s the excellent paper from UCSD on the origins in Hubei science.sciencemag.org/content/early/… I think by sending in international teams to take samples from animals livestock wastewater we might really get to the origins
I also said this is in the enlightened self interest of the Chinese given that they’ve now suffered through two major coronavirus epidemics: SARS in 2003 and SARS-2 in 2019. We’ve done a lot of work in China, even keeping a lab in Shanghai in the 1990s studying parasitic disease
