Started with one impromptu livestream by @thechrisbarron. Now it’s a whole thing.

A Friday artist showcase. Weekly, intimate, live-music shows.

An organic community coming together to lift up musicians and enjoy music.

An organic team coming together to make it possible.

1/ Image
This started as just a Twitter post on a lonely, depressed Friday night.

“Can we find something to do together tonight?”

Now, The Herd is a thriving, welcoming community of people connecting around live music.

2/
I have been blessed with the passionate help of a team of good people.

They have helped me take this from a one-man scramble to an informal organization with bigger plans.

3/
There is no money in this for any of us. We’ve paid out of our own pockets to tip the artists and cover our few expenses.

But it is a labor of love.

It is a labor of fellowship and shared values.

And on Fridays and Saturdays it isn’t a labor at all; it is just a joy.

4/
The Herd is still in its infancy. We’re growing and learning and and expanding.

There is a seat for you.

By just tuning in, you add your energy.

Some people just listen. Some people chat. And both are great.

Stop by some night. We have a hell of an April planned.

America was brainwashed into its relationship with guns by marketing.

I think about that a lot. Today’s gun culture is the result of marketing. What gun nuts think is a constitutional legacy of gun rights was manufactured by people and companies that benefitted.
As someone who worked in advertising and marketing, it is not hard to see how marketers found emotional triggers and then just pounded them for decades.

Entire generations now fully believe what they’ve been spoonfed.
Companies that profited from gun sales silenced some of the opposition with donations.

And then politicians discovered it could be used as a wedge issue.

It had nothing to do with the constitution or even guns.

Basic greed for power and money.

I hadn’t fully realized how hard COVID has been for musicians until recently. I knew they lost income and gigs.

What I hadn’t understood was how psychologically hard it was to be kept from performing.

1/
When tours and concerts were canceled, I thought “Well, at least musicians can spend the time writing and recording.”

What I hadn’t understood is that the performing itself is like a solar energy to musicians.

It is the fuel for so much else.

2/
Performing is an exchange of energy.

The musician pays in their work and passion and heart and the audience pays in their joy and happiness and love.

It is a fair and mutual trade.

Almost every Friday for the past couple months, I’ve lined up an artist to play a live set on Instagram.

It is a showcase of sorts. A platform for young artists.

It is a weekly joy for me.

This week, I’ve lined up someone I adore:

Bella White

1/

Bella is a 20-year old singer-songwriter.

I found her after hearing a single from a debut album she scrimped and saved to produce herself.

I loved that first track and then the entire album.

And I wanted to share it.

That meant ‘booking’ Bella some Fri.

2/
This week, we connected and things just fell into place.

So, Friday, at 8:30 pm ET, Bella is going to play a few songs for us.

It will be intimate and relaxed.

It is a chance to discover someone.

I want you to discover Bella White with me.

I’ve been going through a two-month beard cycle: Shave, grow it out, hate it, shave...

Settle this one.

Based on the picture in the tweet below:

Beard or no beard?
See poll above.

Are you #TeamBeard or #TeamShave?

I may have $20 riding on the winner. Don’t do me wrong here.

This early data is troubling.

This is just a pretty damn spectacular story.

We begin with our hero, Austyn Farrell, locked down and bored a year ago.

So he made a music video out on his street and posted it on TikTok.

1/
And then he made another - and that one kinda went viral.

Now he had an audience - online at least.

2/
So he made another video.

And a few neighbors came out to watch.

Republican shitbird uses man’s tragic death as political prop to make stupid comment about unrelated things.
This asshat’s resumé is like a caricature of a privileged little white girl from money.

Heritage Foundation, House Republicans, Martha McSally, Liz Cheney, Nancy Mace.

How much you wanna bet her bio is some version of “Born to a rich Virginia daddy who used his connections...”
Don’t get me wrong. Natalie Johnson has had her own share of traumas.

There was the time Black students exercising their right to free speech made it hard for her to hear Ben Shapiro...
