People dismiss the job DeSantis did, but there were at least 4 major decisions he took the lead on and was 100% right despite attacks:
1) Keep beaches open 2) Focus on nursing homes/refuse to send Covid+ back to them 3) Force schools open 4) Prioritize seniors for vaccinations.
In terms of indirect long-term consequences from this pandemic, this map demonstrating #3 may represent the biggest difference local political leadership could make.
and #2 + #4 saved a lot of lives.

Again, Berenson is either one of the dumbest people on the planet when it comes to interpreting data or assumes everyone in his audience is an idiot. That’s very chart shows the deviations as vaccines ramped up, but eventually all age groups benefit from reduced transmission.
Also, almost 60% of Israel’s population has been vaccinated. That’s a lot more people than those in nursing homes. If almost 3/5 people can’t get or spread the virus, it’s going to make it hard for it to spread to too many people in any age group.
Btw what’s Alex’s explanation for how a country went from a massive Covid-19 outbreak to 95% reduction in cases over a few months just as they gave most people a vaccine if the vaccines aren’t effectice? Pure luck? Covid-19 just decided to give up on Israel?
At some point a lot of people are going to have to decide whether they want to focus on loyalty to one politician and soothing his ego or the future of the country.
He will hand Democrats control of everything just so he can keep playing victim.
You can either get stuck in the past with him or move on to the future and try to stop the radicals on the left looking to make permanent changes. This isn't about policy. You can back every policy you supported with Trump, but there can be no political success backing him.
and a lot more people are going to realize that when Trump will inevitably turn on pols like DeSantis once he feels they are overshadowing him and are insufficiently loyal to him. Because all he cares about is himself.
We do not decide Presidential elections by popular vote so it’s a completely meaningless statistic. It’s like saying a team made less field goals during an NBA championship series so they shouldn’t get the title after winning 4 games.
2) He intentionally inserts the “initially” qualifier in there to discount the 2 Justices GWB appointed after he beat Kerry, including in the popular vote, in 2004.
3) No such thing as Senators representing a minority of Americans as they represent individual states, but wouldn’t be true if there was: Roberts was confirmed by 78 Senators, Alito by 58 etc.
Re Georgia, a lot of the people attacking the law have shifted from the discussing the details (where their attacks have fallen apart) to demand we argue the context. I don't think it makes sense for context or motives to supersede the actual details of the law, but...
if you're going to focus on context, you can't ignore the context of a candidate losing decisively in GA, then inventing a bunch of lies about the system to suggest they didn't lose and justify not conceding.
That happened in 2018 and helped lead to some of these provisions.
(and yes it happened again in 2020 on the other side)
The reality is both of those elections and the partisan reactions that followed contributed to some of the changes, but many of those changes make sense and improve the process while ensuring security.
Really despicable how they not only tripled down on their journalistic malpractice via indefensible editing & omissions, but then also included another smear in statement.
At this point the responsibility goes way beyond the reporter & producer for that particular segment.
The disparity in rates is because Florida targeted the elderly first for vaccinations. That population tends to skew whiter, but also significantly more at-risk from this virus.
FL then went out there way to specifically set up vaccination events targeting minority communities.
Here is the partnership DeSantis formed with African-American churches to encourage vaccinations in those communities: abcactionnews.com/news/state/des…
They just can't help themselves. They are obsessed with trying to invent a scandal for FL where none exists.
Publix has over 800 locations in FL. It is by far the most prominent story in the state. It's the obvious choice for vaccinations. Also, Publix donated to both parties.
Wow. And it appears that @60Minutes edited the clip to cut out several minutes of @GovRonDeSantis giving extensive details showing just how wrong this narrative is..
Here is the full clip with the question starting ~1:40:
They literally cut out him explaining the whole process including who was responsible for LTCs (not Publix), how Publix raised their hand as CVS/Wallgreens was doing LTCs, how they had a trial to test it, why it worked, & how now CVS/Walgreen's are being used now.
