.@abdulla_shahid: Maldives is also one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. Hence, we are aiming to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels for energy generation and we have decided to lead by example. We aim to achieve net zero emissions by 2030.

.@abdulla_shahid: Maldives is continuously looking at ways to transition to lower emissions and cleaner methods of energy generation. Our recovery plans formulated in the aftermath of covid-19 pandemic adapts an energy policy that emphasises solar power for energy generation.

.@abdulla_shahid: Our NDC emissions are ambitious and cannot be achieved without the support of the international community.

.@abdulla_shahid: The finance gap that has emerged in mobilising resources in the aftermath of the pandemic is a global trend and needs to be addressed with cooperation from private and public sectors. #Raisina2021

.@abdulla_shahid: Easy, accessible and innovative finance options for sustainable development and building adaptation measures must be undertaken. Covid must be taken as an opportunity to build back a better and greener world. #Raisina2021

.@isolaralliance: Financing at scale and predictable financing is at the heart of enabling the transition to a solar economy. #Raisina2021

.@isolaralliance: While climate change can be a strong driving force for energy transitions, energy transitions don’t occur just because of climate change. But they occur when people’s needs are met.#Raisina2021

.@isolaralliance: Across the globe, but particularly, in the developing world, there is a lack of capacity - in terms of banking, financing, policy making. All required to bring solar into the mainstream of energy generation.#Raisina2021

.@isolaralliance: Climate-financing which enables transactional finance to occur is the need of the hour. Thus, connectivity between financing, risk mitigation and capacity building is important to transition to solar energy.

.@katehamptongray: This is the decade of delivery, not just to half global emissions but also to achieve the SDGs. We need to put developmental and environmental priorities together. #Raisina2021

.@katehamptongray: Given this is a multi-faceted transition with multi-faceted drivers, there is a need for multi-faceted delivery of objectives.#Raisina2021

.@katehamptongray: We’re in a world where countries’ fiscal baskets are being exhausted. So, while rich countries have been able to pledge nearly 30% of their GDP to recovery, for low income countries it's 2%. #Raisina2021

Thus, the only way to get countries to participate in a green resilient sustainable economy is that liquidity is available and there is easy access to capital markets.#Raisina2021

It is time G-7 and G-20 countries come together and give the Small Island Developing Countries(SIDs) a time frame for relief packages that will help SIDs to plan exit strategies in the wake of the pandemic.

The role of philanthropy is to act as facilitator and supporter in transition to clean energy, to bridge the gaps between various stakeholders, sharing best practises and ensuring accessibility in the groundroots. #Raisina2021
