This third wave is incredibly serious. Cases are rising rapidly. In several places across the country, numbers are higher than they’ve ever been before. Our hospitals are stretched far too thin. Here’s some of what we’re doing to support the provinces and territories:
In Ontario, we’re standing by to deploy @RedCrossCanada to help with their mobile vaccination teams. This is about getting doses to people where the situation is the most serious.
We’ve already deployed Mobile Health Units in Ontario, providing more hospital beds and freeing up space for people who need critical care. We’ve provided the province with lab support, contact tracers, and health care equipment - like oxygen units and drugs to treat COVID-19.
To help slow the spread of the virus and its variants, we’re supporting COVID-19 testing through mobile labs - which allow us to reach more patients. We’re also investing in safe isolation sites across the country, so those who can’t self-isolate at home have a place to go.
We’ve stepped up with funding to make our schools safer, to provide workers with personal protective equipment, and to deliver vaccines across the country. To date, we’ve delivered more than 12 million doses to the provinces and territories - and millions more are on the way.
We’ll continue to do whatever it takes to protect your health - but we can’t beat this virus without your help. We need you to stay home. If you have to head out, make sure you wear your mask, wash your hands, keep your distance, and use the #COVIDAlert app.

Update: As the number of COVID-19 cases in Ontario climbs to levels we’ve never seen before, we’re working with the province and taking serious action to protect Ontarians. To do that, and to help fight this third wave, we’re providing additional, emergency support. Thread ⤵️
To help care for people across the province, we’re sending federal health care workers and equipment to the front lines. We’re also working with other provinces and territories to coordinate the logistics of getting extra support, supplies, and workers to Ontario.
To help stop the spread of the virus, we’re boosting rapid testing in hotspots across the province. We’re providing more funding for safe isolation sites and virtual health services, too, and extending two Mobile Health Units that were deployed to Toronto and Hamilton in January.

Now is not the time to travel. If you have plans to head somewhere for the long weekend, cancel them. There are other, safer ways for you to connect with your family and friends. For those who need to travel, take note of the measures that are in place when you return to Canada:
If you’re flying back into the country, you’ll need to show a negative PCR test result before you board the plane. When you land, you’ll need to take another PCR test. You’ll then have to wait at an approved hotel, and at your own expense, for your results to come back.
If your results come back negative for COVID-19, you’ll be able to head home and finish your mandatory quarantine there. If your test results come back positive, you’ll need to immediately quarantine in designated government facilities. This is not optional.

If you’re returning through our land border, you’ll also need to take a PCR test when you arrive. This is on top of the negative test result you must show from the 72 hours before your arrival. Toward the end of your 14-day quarantine, you’ll be required to take another PCR test.
