I think I need to remind everyone about vaccination because I have seen so many careless tweets on it in the past few days

Vaccination is going to impact Covid numbers in 3 months! What?? 3 MONTHS!
Let me explain. Antibodies develop in the body 2 weeks after the 2nd dose. Gap between 1st & 2nd dose for Covishield is 6 - 8 weeks. So approximately 2.5 months before it gives protection

With the rising 2nd wave, everyone is flocking to vaccination. This is NOT a tetanus injection. Taking it once doesn't protect you. So that understanding is wrong.

Let me tell you why every vaccine facility in India can't produce vaccines.

Covishield patent is held by Oxford Uni + AstraZeneca. Serum Institute is the manufacturer. The manufacturer does NOT decide whether to make it with a competitor. The owner decides.

Covaxin is made the way traditional vaccines are made. Using an inactive virus. To make it, they need to grow cultures of the virus and inactivate it. This needs labs of higher medical clearance or else virus could leak from inferior lab. It is not like a franchise. It has rules

Fortunately, thanks to MH Govt and Health Min working together, Haffkins Institute in Maharashtra will aid Bharat Biotech to make Covaxin. But Haffkins does not have the required lab clearance so it's exact role is unknown, as of now.

Serum Institute is OBLIGATED to export its vaccines yo to the UK and to GAVI. GAVI is a WHO coalition that distributes vaccines to poorer countries. Countries in Africa are getting vaccines because of GAVI. Rich countries have pre-booked Pfizer and Moderna already

At the same time, in India we have other vaccine candidates. Zydus Cadilla is working on a vaccine as well. The ICMR expects by August we will have 5 vaccines available. Opening up for everyone then makes sense. Open it now, you cause panic.

The problem in scaling vaccines is that there is a raw material shortage. The US had blocked critical raw materials supply. They are prioritizing their own vaccination thru Pfizer/Moderna.

What India needs to do is work with vaccine mfg and find alternatives. NOW.

So please understand the context to the whole vaccination issue. Do not advocate opening vaccination for all. It is not sensible and won't help control the spread. Look deeper.Don't parrot what anyone says
