An interesting anectode from history that puts the Game of Thrones to shame.
In 1169, there was a family fued in the Pandya Dynasty with regards to who would be the king. One one side there was Parakrama Panya and on the other, there was Kulasekara Pandya.
Now only one of them could be king and magnanimity was not a quality in either of the contendors. As there was no Mano - e - mano type contest to decide who is the winner, Kulasekara laid seige to Madurai, where Parakrama Pandya was there.
As Parakrama was not strong enough to fight Kulasekara, he asked the Sri Lankan king, Parakramaprabhu for help. The name might just be a coincidence.
Seeing this as a golden chance to get one up on South India, the Sri Lankan king sent an army under his general LankaPura.
By the time the Sri Lankan army had landed in Rameshwaram, Kulasekara had killed Parakrama pandya. However, the Sri Lankan Parakrama, instructed his general to make Indian Parakrama's minor son, Vira Pandya, as a puppet ruler.
When Kulasekara heard the news about the Lankan landing, he asked Chola king, Rajadhiraja for help.
As he also wanted to seize Madurai, he sent a force to fight the Sri Lankans
However the Parakrama² force, defeated the Chola-Kulasekara Pandya force, twice, and entered Madurai.
Lankapura installed Vira Pandya as the puppet king and could have lived happily ever after
But no, he attacked the Chola territories of Tondi. And This time Rajadhiraja, didn't mess around. He sent a bigger force under Genral Perumanambi, to screw the Lankans, six ways to Sunday
Which Perumanambi gladly did. Not only did he destroy the Lankan Army, he also cut the head off LankaPura and nailed it to the gates of Madurai as a warning.
Virapandya got the message and ran away, and Kulasekara Pandya was made king.
War over and soldiers went home? No..
When the Sri Lankan Parakrama got the news Head of his General nailed to Madurai news, he decided to again invade India.
But this time Rajadhiraja was warned. So he incited Parakrama's brother Vallabha, and then sent an army, for a pre emptive strike on Parakrama.
And Chola's tucked into the Sri Lankan army like a Piranha tucks into livestock in Amazon. Totally defeated, Parakrama had one last card to play.
He sent a lot of money to Kulasekara, the same Kulasekara who the Chola's installed as Madurai king, to attack the Cholas.
And the ingrate went and cut the branch that he was sitting on. He attacked the Cholas.
However Cholas turned it around, drove off the invaders, killed Kulasekara.
They searched the Vira Pandya, the same Vira Pandya who had fought the Cholas some, and made him king.
So to summarize, from 1169 to 1177, Two Pandyas fought for the throne. One went to Sri Lanka, the other went to the Cholas
The Cholas defeat the Sri Lankans and install the Pandya guy who came to them as the king
The same guy then attacks Cholas for 30 mounds of silver
The Cholas defeat him, kill him and install the guy who was first their enemy, as the new King. While invading Sri Lanka on the side.
As I said before, This my friends, is the real Game of Thrones..
Unfortunately the Pandya Kings never learnt. At the end of this civil war, Pandya empire somehow survived.
There was another Civil war in the 14th Century. This time however, Malik Kafur was around.
That civil war not only lead to a Sultanate invasion, it lead to massive temple destruction and violation, mass murder, loot and general pillage, but also the end of the Pandya empire.
Great civilizations don't fall because of external factors, but because of internal decay.

I love how people on Twitter are deciding, with patently false data, on how much profit a company should make.
I am pretty sure they would also be OK with the govt deciding and fixing what their salary should be and how much they should earn in a month.
Pricing a Vaccine depends on a lot of inputs. The manufacturing facilities, the storage cost, the development costs etc. Do we know how much it costs to deactivate a virus? Do we know how much it takes to scale it up for production? The cost of trial & distribution.
Probably No
But we quickly jump the gun on heaping abuse on a company making profits
And it's not like as if people don't have options. They can get it for free at the State govt hospitals. The higher end is for private hospitals, which looks OK
I heard of a case today which a guy filed against Maruti, for improper servicing of his car
The car : Maruti Esteem. The year: 2002
And the court ruled in his favour, in 2020
The court which took 20 years to give justice in such a petty case, now demands something in 24 hours
People of India : I have sold jewellery, land, assets, in the hope that I get justice, which for us is a matter of life and death. Please help
Our Lords : I understand, but our 3 month vacation is more important. Case is adjourned. Also, why is there no airport in Shimla
The entire enercise of giving amazing privileges, exemptions and extreme respect to our judges, is to ensure they don't succumb to external influences while doing their primary job, dispensing Justice
But nowadays, most focus only on the first part and have forgotten the second
In Kappan, Surya is PM bodyguard who saves farmers in his spare time.
In Bhoomi, Jayam Ravi is a NASA scientist, who seamlessly converts into an Indian farmer.
In Sulthan, Karthi transforms Chennai rowdies into farmers, in six months.
Farming is so much comedy to you va?
In Sulthan also there is an Ambani type villain who wants to convert all farmland and do mining and all.
He comes in the middle of the night wearing cooling glass to personally seize the Land and do fighting.
I mean why will an Ambani come and do fighting And all?
I never understood this trope in Tamil cinema, where an industrialist worth 10000 crore, gets into the field and do fighting with sticks and all with the hero.
And that too with a cooling glass, no matter what time of the day it is.
When we all joined Social Media ten years ago, we just wanted to have some fun, share info, expand our world view, maybe get into an occasional disagreement and laugh about it and move on.
I don't know where it all went wrong...
And I don't agree with the Politics part of it.
We are and will always be political. In the olden days though, difference in Political opinion was a given. But we used to overlook all of that, while interacting with others.
And there never was so much hatred.
Look At E Sreedharan. That man is a national hero. What that man has done will serve India for the next 200 years, if not more
He literally moved mountains and Delhi, to being people together and make India a better place
But because he joined the BJP, he was suddenly, wrong
I still cannot believe the stupid adoration that Tamilians and Telugu people have for their film stars.
Like them, love them, it's ok.
But what currently exists is Madness. For a supposedly well educated and an intelligent state, this kind of behavior is a travesty.
What I also can't believe is that people spend their own hard earned money in promoting their star. Be it trending their star on twitter, abusing the rival, printing giant flexes, everything.
I mean stars earn 20 cr for a movie. And you earn 0.001% of that. Why indulge in this?
And most of the stars probably don't even give 2 Rs for these activities. I am sure they don't even care about one flex in Thisayanvilai.
And if some superfan tries to come near, I am sure the star's security will have no compunction in throwing them out
