Despite violent histories, many are still granted custody of children, putting them at risk. If these arrangements are resisted by the other parent due to fear their child will be abused the consequences can be significant.

The harms from domestic violence include in multitudes of physical injuries, chronic pain, brain injury (usually undetected), stress related physical health conditions, and miscarriage or stillbirths.

The psychological impacts alone lead to significant harm both mental health & physical! Mental health conditions such as PTSD with chronic trauma & risk of harm, often poorly or underdiagnosed & treated, further exacerbating the trauma.

Drugs/alcohol use, poor self esteem, developmental issues, poor self care, homeless, financial stress/poverty, negative impacts on employment & education, self harm and suicide. These lifelong consequences affect the abused partner & the children severely!
