It was funny at first, but it really isn't anymore. This is pathetic, and actively harmful to a franchise that I love and I wanted to see succeed here.

And I seriously doubt Toei hears the feedback-- or if they did, that they even care.

They're bad in a way that reflects poorly on the entire brand. And harmful towards any future licenses, because these will forever be the translations that exist in the public's eye.

And with two very poor releases now-- on a totally separate streaming service from the one that's actively trying to promote the franchise--
they're bad in a way that affects the proper release Toei and Shout Factory are trying to accomplish with Zero-One.

And a bad translation is money wasted for you AND the next person.

Because whoever licenses this next (if there's a next; which is not hyperbole) will be paying for these "subtitle ready"
and they're so bad that fixing them would basically be like doing it from scratch.

It doesn't help that TokuHD is known for rights squatting.
It also doesn't help that nobody at Toei seemed to have had an issue with the fan reception to Agito, which was also a mess.

This is a product that a company should be ashamed of, and they let it happen twice.

I can't say anything else I haven't already said, or that I didn't already say when Agito came out. I don't even think this will be the last time.

I'm sorry to be blunt, but don't let any company think your money is worth unreadable subtitles. Keep your fansubs for this one.

You can't even say "at least this is getting eyes on the show" because *what eyes??*

TokuHD isn't an app that's readily available on devices. It's sitting in Amazon Channels purgatory with literal garbage. And if they do manage to get it on their TV, it looks like this:

You've just stumbled on the show as a new viewer, and this is what you see. What kind of masochist would watch past this?

In summary:
Please. Please, please. If you are going to license and distribute Japanese media in English, hire a translator. Stop machine translating.

There is only so much fat you can cut before you start hitting bone.
