Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB numbers: Over the last 24 hours we have identified 1,437 new cases & completed about 17K tests. Our positivity rate is 8.6%. Today’s new cases incl 932 VoCs. These variants currently make up 61.1% of active cases in AB. (1/4)
There are 594 ppl in hospital incl 140 in ICU. Sadly, 3 new deaths were reported over the past 24hrs. My condolences go out to anyone mourning the loss of a loved one. (2/4)

I would like to update you on work that’s underway to reduce #COVID19AB testing wait times in #YYC. (1/6)
Testing volumes in Calgary Zone have more than doubled in the last 4-6 weeks & we are providing 5000+ tests/day. This has resulted in some waiting 3-5 days for tests, which is too long. (2/6)
In order to address this wait time we are implementing multiple strategies to increase swabbing capacity. This includes extending hours at sites w/ the highest demand & adding staff at assessment centres & swabbing sites. (3/6)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB numbers: We have admin 1.4M doses of vaccine. Over the last 24hrs we ID’d 1,495 new cases & completed about 14.8K tests. Our positivity rate is 10.2%. We have ID’d 1,542 new VoC cases. Variants currently make up 64% of active cases. (1/4)
There are 616 people in hospital including 145 in ICU. Sadly, 7 new deaths were reported over the past 24hrs. My condolences go out to their friends and families, and to anyone mourning the loss of a loved one today. (2/4)

Over the last 24hrs, we ID’d 1,857 new cases & completed about 17.5K tests. Our + rate is 10.7%. We ID’d 1,326 new VoC cases in the last 24hrs. Variants represent about 60% of active cases. There are active alerts/outbreaks in 612 schools in AB w/3.5K cases since Jan. 11. (2/10)
We have confirmed the 1st AB case of the B.1.617 variant 1st ID’d in Denmark. It’s been found in California & a key driver of rapid spread in India. The variant was in a returning interprovincial traveller & no additional cases have been detected to date. (3/10)

Due to a technical issue, we are only providing limited provincial #COVID-19AB data today.

I know many people follow these numbers and my apologies for this delay. This issue is being fixed and we will post our usual detailed update tomorrow. (1/5)
In the last 24 hours, we have identified 1,699 new cases & completed 18,412 tests across the province. Our positivity rate was about 9.5%. There are now 18,873 active cases in Alberta. (2/5)
We have confirmed another 1,332 variant cases in the last 24 hours. Variants now make up about 59% of active cases in the province. (3/5)
