Tribute to the man who knew #infinity on his 101st death anniversary. Srinivasa Ramanujan, pioneer in mathematics, made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series & continued fractions. He lived only 32 years & left the world in 1920.
Son of a clerk from erode, who stunned the world with his mathematics prowess.

Later became one of the youngest Fellows of the Royal Society & only the second Indian.

And also the first Indian to be elected a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge.
Even in that short life independently compiled nearly 3,900 results. Most were novel. Interesting thing his many works are still attracting mathematicians.

He worked in isolation many a times, as a result he also proved things which were already done by others at that time.
His famous quote; An equation for me has no meaning," he once said, unless it expresses a thought of God.

The year after his death, Nature listed Ramanujan among other distinguished scientists and mathematicians on a "Calendar of Scientific Pioneers" who had achieved eminence.
And most will not be knowing this.

ATMs of Morden age dispense money based on Srinivas Ramanujans Partition theory. It divides and arranges money based on this theory only.

Which we use one daily basis.

Today is death anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai; the father of space programme in #India. We reached stars because he gave us vision. Founder of ISRO, Physical research laboratory, helped in establishing first IIM at Ahemadabad. In pic with young APJ Kalam. #Tributes.
Studied in Cambridge. Later during WW2 came to India & joined IISc Bangalore, physics department. Very few knows CV Raman was his doctoral advisor. It was the time when IISc had CV Raman, Homi Bhabha & Sarabhai at the same time in its campus. Giants walking same corridors.
There is a story behind CV Raman mentoring him.

When Sarabhai left Cambridge during WW2 his mentor there agreed only if Raman becomes his guide. For Which Raman agreed.

I don't remember his mentor from Cambridge. For more one can read book 'in pursuit of excellence'.

An Indian scientist who demonstrated to the world that plants have life.

On May 10, 1901 at jam-packed hall of Royal Society, London he demonstrated how plants have life with crescograph. Invented telegram. Remembering JC Bose, 1st modern scientist of India on birth anniversary.
He could record motion of plant tissues to about 10 K times of their actual size.

Demonstrated how Plant died like a rat due to poisoned bromide solution.

JC Bose became the first Indian to be appointed as Professor of Physics in the Presidency College, and later to IES.
JC Bose was Offered half payment vis-a-vis European professors, in protest refused salary for 3 years and taught.

In 1998, Dr. Probir found out how Bose was the real inventor of Wireless Receiver, didn't patent, but Marcony patented.

Remembering the giant. #JCBOSE
