"As I said on The Project last night ADF support was offered to the Andrews Govt for quarantine from the start"
This is an entirely different argument from what he presented last night.
Support and Security are different and the Coate Report agrees.
Yesterday @StevePriceMedia was claiming that Vic didn't want the ADF to RUN quarantine. Support to Quarantine is different to RUNNING quarantine or providing SECURITY.
Steve knows he is wrong and now he is trying to change his argument from running quarantine to supporting it.
Steve refused to reply directly to this Tweet where I gave him the facts, which in my opinion tells you a lot about his character and certainly speaks volumes to problems with political commentators and journalists in Australia.
Now, before I get started on the article, it's important to note three things.
1) This article is from BEFORE The Coate Report was released. 2) Victoria did use the ADF, for door-knocking, transport etc., just not security as they were never offered for that.
3) Steve said yesterday: "I think if you read the Coate inquiry evidence you’ll see ADF was offered and rejected"
We don't use evidence submitted during inquires for conclusions. We wait for the report. 1/2
Going off selective evidence is like convicting a person of murder before the Defense even gets to make their case.
It's up to Judge Coate to look at all the evidence and make her conclusions. @StevePriceMedia should know this and he should actually read the report. 2/2
This is misleading. The ADF has been in Victoria the whole time during COVID, providing transport, door-knocking and other logistical matters.
This is not an offer of ADF. This is one person's opinion of whether the ADF were needed for hotels.
The opinion is irrelevant as the ADF were never offered for security in the first place. The ADF is constitutionally prevented from performing security enforcement
Other states, including New South Wales USED PRIVATE SECURITY! This is just poor journalism.
This email from Phil Gaetjens: 1) Is not an offer, it is a suggestion 2) Phil Gaetjens is NOT authorised to offer the ADF anyway, he is a secretary 3) We know from Linda Reynolds that the ADF was not providing hotel security
This is true but Morrison's letters never mentioned the word security. It was all about support. Again SUPPORT DOES NOT EQUAL SECURITY.
The ADF was already in Victoria providing support, these letters are purely @ScottMorrisonMP playing politics during a pandemic.
Security vs Police is an entirely different argument, The Coate Inquiry does go into this but it's irrelevant to the ADF matter.
This is just not true. The request was made but it was never signed off on (and nor would it have been). Reynolds own statement never said it was signed off and it says 'assistance' not security.
This is a perfect example of the vicious journalism that Victoria and @DanielAndrewsMP endured last year. This quote is in reference to SECURITY only, not ADF support in general, which clearly Victoria accepted as the ADF has been here the whole time. Just not for security.
Well, that's the end of that article. Lets take a look at some more recent ones @StevePriceMedia?
Further backed up here @StevePriceMedia, by the former Minister herself. "We can help with general duties at hotels which we have been doing but we can't sit in hallways as they have no powers to stop and apprehend.
This whole ADF argument has been a word-twisting, biased political attack from the media, interchanging support and security when convenient to try and confuse voters.
The ADF was offered and accepted for support/logistics. They were never offered for security.
These findings from the Coate Report, the above article and Reynolds' quotes occurred after that article shared by @StevePriceMedia today was published.
Perhaps this time Steve, you might reply directly and admit that you are wrong?
@Peter_Fitz He sniped at Victoria whenever he could. He has given extra vaccines to NSW. His Government refused to give us support during lockdown and despite eventually caving, he increased the support when NSW went into lockdown. 1/2
@Peter_Fitz He lied about the ADF, which resulted in a partisan media campaign and last year's 2nd wave was a result of his refusal to set up purpose-built quarantine. His Government had no plan for aged care which led to 600+ deaths. 2/3
@Peter_Fitz As PM he said nothing when the media embarked on a security guard witch hunt, despite knowing that other states had used private security also, including the same company that Vic used. 3/4
The Age never praised the outcome. It's disingenuous and plain rude to write this paragraph now and admit that the lockdown last year paid off when The Age was critical of Daniel Andrews the entire time and made last year all that more difficult for all of us.
This was always the path to freedom. Not mentioning the botched vaccine rollout in this article proves @theage's bias. For The Age, the reason that we are still fighting COVID (botched vaccine rollout) doesn't matter because it gives them a chance to attack Dan Andrews.
If you're actually interested in educating yourself on this particular aspect of the Coate Report Senator Henderson, you can read section 9.5 Causation at law. #auspol#CoateReport
The Coate Report was primarily focused on Hotel Quarantine and didn't particularly go into matters of Aged Care.
The term 'Aged Care' is only mentioned 9 times in the report.
The Aged Care Royal Commission revealed that the Federal Government did not have a plan for Aged Care.
The Aged Care Deaths were all in federally regulated and funded private aged care facilities NOT in state-run facilities, I think that makes the blame obvious @SenSHenderson.
This article from @jamesmassola is absolute nonsense.
Apparently, Morrison is cool because he plays Pool with his Junior ministers and Albo isn't cool... because... well... Murdoch and Costello said he isn't.
Almost the entire first half of this article (about @AlboMP) is actually about Scott Morrison and how great he is.
The bar for greatness is low though - all you have to do is play Pool, have the media on your side and refuse to act on rape allegations, vaccines and quarantine.
So what you're saying @jamesmassola is that The Liberal Party have had leadership issues? Massive ones. 3 different Prime Ministers via spills - yet the media has not criticised them for it, despite hounding Labor for this before Abbott was elected.
