First up in #EPlenary this morning, we debate the EU COVID-19 certificate.

This will be a temporary tool to help European citizens travel safely and freely again, while protecting their data privacy and avoiding new restrictions.

🔴 Watch here: europarl.europa.eu/plenary/en/hom…
The pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on free movement!

We need to put an end to the chaos: Without Schengen, there is no EU and there is no European recovery to the crisis.

💬 @JFLopezAguilar | #EPlenary
A harmonised EU COVID-19 certificate must bring about an end to the restrictions that have stopped people moving freely.

The certificate, and PCR tests to travel, need to be free of charge, and the data included in it must be the absolute minimum necessary.

📣 @JFLopezAguilar
Restrictions are having significant effects on EU citizens.

The COVID-19 certificates could be the starting point for a real European response to free movement for people vaccinated, with a negative test or having recovered from the virus.

@BirgitSippelMEP
The pandemic is far from over but the increasing number of people being vaccinated is good news.

💪 With a common COVID-19 certificate in all Member States by the summer, all EU citizens would be able to cross borders for family reasons, for work or for tourism.

💬 @fritzon_h
The new EU COVID-19 certificate needs to be

✅ easy to use
✅ free-of-charge
✅ easily available

while at the same time protecting fundamental rights and data protection.

📣 @fritzon_h | #EPlenary
These certificates are not travel documents or passports, but tools that can facilitate free movement in Europe.

Even without a vaccination, under these certificates you will still be able to travel if you have tested negatively or have recovered from the virus.

@JytteGuteland
📣 Free movement has to be for everyone and not depend on how big your wallet is!

Vaccines are free, certificates are free and PCR tests must be free as well.

💬 @JytteGuteland | #EPlenary
“We need to put in place the EU COVID-19 certificate to re-establish people’s confidence when exercising their right to free movement while we continue to fight against the COVID pandemic”.

#EPlenary kicks off with a first debate on the outcome of the 🇪🇺🇬🇧 negotiations.

Follow it live 👉 europarl.europa.eu/plenary/en/hom…
We wanted a closer 🇪🇺🇬🇧 relationship but sadly this wasn’t possible.

The UK government just wanted #Brexit at any cost, without being clear on what that really meant.

💬 @SCHIEDER | #EPlenary
The agreement protects fair trade and fair competition between the EU and the UK.

It limits the hardship that #Brexit will cause for businesses and citizens and sets the building blocks for a potentially strong future partnership.

First up in plenary, we hear from @eucopresident and @vonderleyen on the conclusions of the EU-#Turkey summit, and the deplorable episode of the #sofagate 🪑

🔴Watch live: multimedia.europarl.europa.eu/fr/plenary-ses…
"Today I want to ask you to make a collective effort to make sure the grotesque image of the #sofagate won’t happen again.

The EU must demonstrate stronger commitment to gender equality!"

@IratxeGarper tells @eucopresident and @vonderleyen
The fact that @eucopresident did not notice the issue is exactly where the problem lies.

@IratxeGarper regrets that most EP political groups rejected our proposal for a full plenary debate on the #sofagate.

As we start our farewell ceremony for our @LabMEPs, we want to thank them and their staff for the hard work they carried out over more than 45 years.

This is not a goodbye, it’s an au revoir. Our progressive fight doesn’t stop here.
Our President @IratxeGarper opens the ceremony in honour of @LabMEPs
We’ll continue to fight together for a better, more sustainable and more social world. We as progressives can do more and will do more, together with all of you, with a strong Labour Party.
It’s a sad day for Europe and for our socialist family. If our generation saw how walls could be brought down, this generation will have to do more to protect what we have.
Be aware that this is still your home. We’ll continue to fight together. @EP_President to @LabMEPs
