❌ Today’s students aren’t having sex.

💏 Not nearly as many university students are having sex as you might think...

🦠 And Covid is not to blame

Here’s what is...

🧵👇

🤝 New research has shown students are prioritising finding friendships over sexual partners

58% of students who participated in a new report, "Sex and Relationships Among Students" say:

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Making friends at university...
😘 Is more important than finding a sexual partner
📊Just 16% of students declared excitement at the prospect of having sex at university.

Male students are less sexually active than female counterparts:
🕺34% of men
💃 47% of women

❌ 11% of students were celibate by choice
The survey also revealed...
📊 Men are more likely than women to report they’ve had more sexual partners

🗓️ Nearly 10% of sexual encounters occurred during university welcome weeks

🔎“People have very inaccurate perceptions of others’ lives especially in relation to sex,” says Nick Hillman, from Higher Education Policy Unit.

✅This is true at all ages..

Research shows people believe women have approx 17 sexual partners by their 40s

The true number is 8
📚 “I would say the student sex thing is a baby boomer obsession”

💊 “The pill, easy access to abortion was a game changer for a whole generation,” say Dr Sarah Nicholson, retired NHS psychiatrist.

Today’s universities are more sober and circumspect
🇬🇧 The wild side of university life is a narrative peculiar to the UK.

🏠 As a nation, we are unusual in using university as a way to leave home and grow up.

🌍 In other countries, students mostly live at home while they study - a passion killer if ever there was one
⛔️ Sexual mores have also shifted and students are scared about getting consent wrong.

✏️ At some universities, it’s compulsory to attend training around consent and coercion
telegraph.co.uk/family/parenti…
⁉️ Only 1/4 undergraduates say that what they learned in their lives before university actually prepared them for sex and relationships

📲 4/10 students have sexted a partner - mostly sending naked pictures
For parents it's hard to know whether to be:
👍 Relieved their young adult children are not having sex
😟 or worried no intimate relationships could mean they are lonely

🤷 The truth is, ask parents today about their student children’s sex lives and most don’t have a clue
Research also showed:
💻Over 50% of respondents say they watched porn

❣️ Nearly 1/3 say they’ve had an intimate relationship at university

💋 1/4 arrive at university never having kissed anyone

❌ 43% have never had sex
✅ “And that’s the benefits of surveys such as these...

"People read them and say, ‘oh, thank goodness I’m not the only virgin’,” says Dr Nicholson.

🤫 Keeping a secret

Designer Sarah Burton was bound by a confidentiality agreement with Buckingham Palace. Alexander McQueen's creative director, was sworn to secrecy.

"It was so great to actually keep a secret"

No-one but a core group of colleagues assisting her were told
✏️ The design

The Duchess had regular input in the dress design. She insistenced on a virtually unadorned silk veil to give the ensemble a "romantic feel".

Inspiration is believed to have come from:
🌼 Princess Diana
🌼 Princess Margaret

🔴🇮🇳 With people dying on the streets and hospitals running out of oxygen, India’s situation is one of the worst the world has yet seen.

⁉️ What is the approximate number of new Covid cases today in India?
telegraph.co.uk/global-health/…
📈379,000 new cases

❌ Alongside vaccines, experts say the authorities should have prepared the underfunded healthcare system for the new surge of the virus, lining up supplies like oxygen and planning how to get them to hospitals
🌍 India is known as the “world’s pharmacy” for its vaccine production capacity. But getting jabs into people’s arms domestically has proved more challenging.

💉How many vaccines have India administered?

🗓️ There are growing signs that Covid restrictions will remain in place long after June.

The PM insists “the end really is in sight”

❌ But @gordonrayner explains that it seems increasingly likely that may only apply to those who own a telescope

📌 Social distancing

📏 While the Government is confident that restrictions on meeting others will cease on June 21, it appears likely that some form of social distancing will stay in place.

Pubs have warned that if distancing rules stay in place, it will be a disaster
🍻Venues that rely on full houses to profit are awaiting results of the Gov review into the 1m distancing rule.

❌ Chief executive of UK Hospitality, said 'Unless the Gov lifts restrictions in full our businesses will remain unviable... they will not be able to make a profit'
