.@GovCox begins by announcing the J&J vaccine is back.
He says it will really help for geography, people who are busy, etc. He hopes people aren't hesitating to get the #COVID19 vaccine. @fox13#utpol#Utah
.@GovCox says over 2.1 million doses have been administered (that's a combo of first and second doses).
About 54% of eligible people in Utah have now gotten at least one dose of the #COVID19 vaccine. @fox13#utpol#Utah
Here's the math on #COVID19 in Utah, per @UtahDepOfHealth...
Cases: 396,985 (463 new)
Tested: 2,551,765 (6,402 new)
Hospitalizations: 16,158 (29 new)
Deaths: 2,197 (7 new)
Vaccinated-1st dose: 1,288,022 (9,043 new)
Vaccinated-Fully: 924,158 (18,295 new) @fox13#utpol#Utah
More than 900,000 Utahns are fully vaccinated, including @GovCox himself now.
"Spend some time with your friends, family and loved ones," he says of fully vaccinated people. "Please enjoy that vaccinated status!"
"Some people, it's on their mind, they're busy... if you're an organization that can benefit from having a mobile clinic on site... we'll encourage you to bring treats for everyone, whatever it takes!" @GovCox says. @fox13#utpol#Utah#COVID19
"We hope this will really jumpstart a new wave of demand," @GovCox says.
.@DrAngelaCDunn says the 7-day average for new cases is 380 (a decline). Percent positivity increased a little bit.
She says we're in a plateau statewide, with local outbreaks in schools and tourist areas. Vaccines preventing it from being worse. @fox13#utpol#Utah#COVID19
They have a surge at a middle school in Jordan School District, @DrAngelaCDunn says. Those kids are not eligible for the #COVID19 vaccine.
"It's a reminder we're still in the middle of a pandemic," she says.
Teens especially need to get vaccines, @DrAngelaCDunn says.
"If we want to prevent another surge from happening in the fall, we all need to get vaccinated when we're eligible so get one today," she says. @fox13#utpol#Utah#COVID19
I ask about any changes in light of school surge? @GovCox reiterates that masks WILL stay through the end of this school year.
Testing has also been effective.
"We have had major events in most school districts... without having major outbreaks," he says. @fox13#utpol#Utah
"If not for the incredible rate of vaccination we had in this state... we would be seeing a third surge," @GovCox warns.
For example? Southern Utah was slammed at one point. That's flipped and SL Co. has the highest demand so they re-allocated. @fox13
.@GovCox says he will now REMOVE the requirement that providers use all of their #COVID19 vaccine doses. It will allow for them to still offer it just in case.
More rural areas are already shifting from mass vaccination sites to private providers and smaller distribution channels offering the #COVID19 vaccine, @DrAngelaCDunn says.

Delegates are filling the Maverik Center for the @UtahGOP convention. Public health orders say gatherings of 50+ must wear masks but it’s very mixed today. @fox13#utpol#Utah
In front of the main stage, there’s like a fog machine. @fox13#utpol#Utah
These are the kinds of mobile clinics that @GovCox was talking about in the state's change in approach. @SaltLakeHealth has done a few already.
People who got their shots today tell me it's MUCH easier than trying to make an appt at a mass vaccine site. #utpol#Utah#COVID19
The people I talked to aren't vaccine hesitant. But their work schedules don't make it easy to go get inoculated. These kind of "pop up" clinics put on by @SaltLakeHealth do. @malihehclinic is going to do them 2x a month for their clients. @fox13#utpol#Utah#COVID19

Bobbie Widdison did time for the 1996 murder of her child. She was supposed to be paroled in 2018. Parole board changed its mind, giving her life. Widdison challenged it and as the case reached the Utah Supreme Court?
