Meanwhile, The outgoing Somali parliament has denied reports circulating on social media that the MPs are planning to impeach Prime Minister Roble. Earlier this week, the premier backed the decision by Galmudug & Hirshabelle regional states to oppose term extension.

Troops from the national army (rebel pro-opposition forces) opposed to the term extension for the federal government institutions refused to withdraw from the capital, Mogadishu & declared they would stay put until the planned talks on the elections resume- per local media.

The Somali government & the opposition alliance have held talks to de-escalate the tension in the capital and resolve the election disputes.
After weeks of tensions, violence finally erupted on 25 April, initially pitting rival factions within the security services.

Opposition politicians have said they no longer recognise Farmajo as president after his mandate expired on 8 February. They formed the National Salvation Forum, an alliance of several “key” opposition figures and the leaders of Jubbaland and Puntland.

The government deployed a large number of security forces to nearby areas - according to local media reports.

Last night, Prime Minister Roble held a meeting with the president of the Galmudug state, Ahmed Qoor Qoor, who hails from the same constituency as the former police chief, to try & defuse the situation. Sadaq was reportedly persuaded to return to his home near the airport.

Have been contacting sources in Addis Ababa to get confirmation about the reported detention of former commander of Ethiopian army in #Somalia, Colonel Gebregziabher Alemseged Abraha known as “Gebre”. who many Somalis call him “The Butcher of Mogadishu” so far no confirmation.
He is accused of overseeing the massacres of civilians, the shelling of densely populated civilian districts, the ransacking of hospitals in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu and various other war crimes, committed between 2006-2008, according to civil & rights groups.
In April 2008, Amnesty International accused Ethiopian soldiers on [April] of killing 21 people, including an imam and several Islamic scholars, at a Mogadishu mosque and said seven of the victims had their throats slit, according the report by Reuters.
