📸Unicef Only 52 percent of the population in Somalia have access to a basic water supply. Limited regulation of private water suppliers often leads to expensive prices, forcing families to fetch water from far and from unsafe open wells- according to UNICEF report.

#THREAD Bosaso Conflict:

Fighting has resumed for the third day in the Somalia's port city of Bosaso between rival units of the Puntland state security forces.
At least 10 people have been killed & more than 30 others wounded in the fighting -per security & medical reports.

1/6 Forces from a counter-terrorism unit known as Puntland Security Forces (PSF) have been fighting state troops in the city over the sacking of former PSF commander Mohamud Osman Diano by the regional president, Said Abdullahi Deni.
Diano has refused to leave his position.

#THREAD: UN Security meeting on Somalia

The UNSC members will convene for consultations on the political situation in Somalia. The UK government requested the meeting to discuss the current crisis & its potential impact on the electoral process & security- per sources.

1/6 During the closed-door meeting, the council members will explore the potential role the UN body can play in reducing the tensions & how to prevent further escalation. They will listen to the opinion of the UN envoy to Somalia, according to diplomats familiar with the matter.

#THREAD It is 6:47 am in Mogadishu President @M_Farmaajo will be meeting with the Members of Somalia’s lower house of Parliament today to revert to the 17 September 2020 agreement to hold the much-delayed elections as the political & security crisis in the country deepens.

1/5 Meanwhile, The outgoing Somali parliament has denied reports circulating on social media that the MPs are planning to impeach Prime Minister Roble. Earlier this week, the premier backed the decision by Galmudug & Hirshabelle regional states to oppose term extension.

Calm returns to Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, following tension & military movement last night in Hodan district after former Banadir region police chief, Sadaq Omar Mohamed (Sadaq John) set up camp at the Shirkole neighbourhoods- per sources.

1/5 Joon, who was recently sacked for trying to block a parliamentary session is protected by clan militia loyal to him.
The government deployed a large number of security forces to nearby areas - according to local media reports.

Have been contacting sources in Addis Ababa to get confirmation about the reported detention of former commander of Ethiopian army in #Somalia, Colonel Gebregziabher Alemseged Abraha known as “Gebre”. who many Somalis call him “The Butcher of Mogadishu” so far no confirmation. He is accused of overseeing the massacres of civilians, the shelling of densely populated civilian districts, the ransacking of hospitals in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu and various other war crimes, committed between 2006-2008, according to civil & rights groups.
