At the Shanti Nagar UPHC in Bangalore. Waiting to see if we'll get a jab. About 20 people here, 2/3 below 45.

The center hasn't opened yet.

In a grim discouraging sign, there's a sheet of paper stuck to the notice board outside.

"Vaccination only for 45 and above"

...
About 40 ppl here now. Still waiting.
No one knows what's going to happen till the doors open...
We've queued up. Terrible social distancing. I want to cry.
(there's a guard who tried his best to enforce 6 feet.... But we're at regular queue line now. Not crowding but no distancing.)
We're about 50 people in the queue. About 2/3 look to be under 45. There are definitely more people now here who are over 45.
BEHOLD THE LONE INDIAN UNCLE WHO IGNORES THE QUEUE AND WALKS STRAIGHT TO THE GATE.
OK we're told now that no vaccine for 18+

The queue is visibly disappointed.

I am very obviously disappointed.

Going to stick around but multiple rounds of announcement made saying no vaccine.
Even though we booked an 18+ slot and went early they are

1) saying they won't vaccinate
2) saying they have no vaccine

But no one is leaving queue.

People are still milling about.
Some arguments. The lady in charge is clear that below 45 won't be vaccinated.
More arguments.

Center saying they'll only give tokens to those above 45.

And only 40 tokens.

Staff getting emotional. People getting emotional.

What a mess.
Tbh staff is trying their best. No blame on them.

The government on the other hand.
Lesson learnt. Don't go to a govt center if you're <45

Find a Manipal or Apollo or something else.
Staff clearly saying:

Government has not given orders or instructions for <45.

Don't bother wasting your time like I did and risk exposing yourself.
Chumma everywhere put one photo. Zero accountability.
I am definitely disappointed and upset.

I'll say this clearly. It's useless to build an app that gives slots if there is no stock or government instruction.

Tech can't solve a supply side problem. Only an informational asymmetry problem.

Do you want to distract yourself? Here is a great question. Try to answer it first without looking it up?

So, I was watching Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom with my son today. In one episode, the elves and fairies go to the moon in a rocket....

1/n
Once the rocket has left Earth's atmosphere, the rocket passengers experience zero gravity.

Ben, the elf, starts to float

Holly, the fairy, tries to fly using her wings, but is unable to. Then Ben's dad, Mr. Elf tells her

"Holly, your wings won't work in zero gravity"
Now, here is the question:

Is Ben's dad correct? Can winged creatures fly in zero gravity?

For the last few days Kabir has been telling us the story of the leaking Antarctic Pipe

Its a riveting and gripping story, involving the Octonaughts, his nanny, his playmates from the sandpits, our Baleno car and a polar bear.
In short the pipe above the Antarctic has stopped working.

Its blocked. The plumber can't fix it.

(our pipes are 'blocked' air quotes so Kabir can't leave the tap running)
So Kabir has to turn on the pipe.

Then water will run.

It will rain.

Rain will snow.

Snow will make polar bear happy.

Seems like this phase of the lockdown is ending slowly. Here are some very local, very online things that helped me get through the lockdown. Parent-friendly, Koramangala friendly.

1/n
Food: I got the OPOS 5 min cookbook from Amazon via Prime Reading. (so... free I think?). Lifesaver. I believe the man who started this movement and his FB group aren't well liked? No matter. OPOS style cooking saves TIME.

Highly recommend. No learning curve. Noobfriendly.
Veggies and Fruits: if you live in Koramangala, cannot recommend enough Arafa Fruits/ Veggies near Sowbhagya / Iyengar Bakery in 5th Block (bonus Bakery makes stellar egg puffs)

+veggie shop hear Nakoda Medicals at Wipro Signal.

Both solid high quality well stocked.

Sitting across Uber/Ola union drivers, negotiating strike demands, talking to @nandiniv about contract workers, that's how GIGI was born.
150 million gig workers in India have no access to benefits.
This changes today.
We're building benefits for the future of work!
@nandiniv GIGI is a fintech company whose focus is on building really simple, micro, financial products that make a huge impact on the lives of those working in India's informal sector.
@nandiniv We've been live since 2019, working with various 2 wheeler and 4 wheeler gig workers in Bangalore, building and curating the right products for them.

We work with aggregators, marketplaces on the supply side, and the best and most trusted financial players on the product side.

Quick thread - work productivity mantra/life hack to maximize time utilization.

tldr: Break up the day into ACT-REACT-ACT blocks if you're a very senior manager or owner

Break up the day into REACT-ACT-REACT blocks if you're in client service, have dependencies, mid-junior team
What does this mean?

Essentially you ACT to take ownership and control of your time.

In this block you do what adds MOST value to your book.

Read, write, learn, a 1v1 meeting where you're the listener not giver, a jam session where someone is there to help YOU, etc.
You REACT when you're doing tasks that require you to catch a ball someone else has thrown.

Respond to emails, pings, look up info for someone (their ACT), give feedback, answer questions, participate in meetings that others lead, 1v1 where you're giving.

REACT clears the way.
