‘You are with me…I…am not afraid. No one can harm me.’
Psalm 56:9-11 CEV
1. The approval of others is something we all enjoy, but you don’t need it in order to have self-worth. In fact, people pleasing will cause you to lose self-worth. You turn yourself inside out for others, and just when you think you’ve succeeded, they change their minds.
2. Besides robbing you of your peace of mind, people pleasing makes it impossible to follow God’s direction – and that ultimately is your greatest loss. If you’re a people pleaser, changing the habits of a lifetime won’t be easy. It will require facing what you fear and asking...
3...God for the courage to follow through. David said, ‘I know…you are with me.…I…am not afraid. No one can harm me.’ When it comes to people pleasing, you must understand two things: 1) Breaking the cycle means risking rejection by saying no when others expect to hear yes.
4. When the people in your life are used to meek, compliant responses, they’ll react negatively until they get used to ‘the new you’. Navigating these waters will be intimidating at first, but is it really any worse than living your life in fear of other people’s reactions?
5. 2) You may have to explain to others that in the past u sought their approval cos you felt insecure, but that’s no longer the case. The important thing is to act now! Breaking any habit involves temporary discomfort, but your only option is to spend your life feeling trapped.
6. You can choose to suffer short term on the way to freedom, or long term by continuing to engage in the struggle to please others. Today, make the right choice.
In May 2018, I did the thread below to draw attention to the fact that many States were not compliant with the requirements of the Pencom Act. I am afraid to say that nothing much has changed. Most Civil Servants in States will retire without a Pension. #StateOfStates#PensionNG
There is an entire GPZ (NE) that is almost 100% non compliant. The only thing 3 States (Adamawa, Gombe & Taraba) can point to as an achievement in 16 years since Pencom Act was passed is that they've enacted CPS law. No Pension Bureau, No CPS Remittance, No Actuarial evaluation.
‘Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, but fools are consumed by their own lips.’
Ecclesiastes 10:12 NIV
1. Aesop, the famed author, said, ‘No act of kindness, no matter how small, ever is wasted.’ As one pastor writes, ‘It costs to be unkind, but it pays to be kind.’ Now, being kind doesn’t mean tolerating wrong or refusing to confront a problem in order to be politically correct.
2. Sometimes we must confront. But it should always be done in a gracious way. A calm demeanour will go a lot further than a harsh comment or an ugly tone of voice. You can make your point with a kind spirit, and even a sense of humour. Don’t be like the man who was standing in..
‘I’m giving it everything I’ve got.’
1 Corinthians 9:26 MSG
1. Long-distance runners don’t just focus on speed, but on endurance. They pace themselves so that as they approach the finish line, they can pull out all the stops. Paul said, ‘I’m running hard for the finish line…giving it everything I’ve got…I’m not going to get caught…
2..telling everyone else…then missing out myself’ (vv.26-27). For long-distance runners, giving up isn’t an option. Despite delays & disappointments along the way, they know they’ll never be satisfied sitting on the sidelines cheering those who’ve paid the price to run the race.
There are many brilliant students in our schools. Most of them will never get to become a Victory Morenike. Why? It's not just about the brilliance of the child, it's also about parenting - Doing what's needed to get the child to where the child should be
You see, this thing is not easy. It is not just about being able to afford to send a child to a good school. The parents must be involved. Once the brilliance of the child is obvious, you will need to become a researcher, looking for essay competitions or summer progs that will..
...help increase the child's knowledge & build capacity. Each success builds the child's confidence & makes them believe they can do more. Then u become the motivational speaker. The one always encouraging because no matter how brilliant they are, they always 2nd guess themselves
I recall when I came to London in 2009. My dad was at Heathrow to welcome me. He bought an Oyster card for me. The card is your ticket to ride on all London buses and trains. You can buy a weekly, monthly, daily or ‘Pay As You Go’ pass.
The Oyster card opens the barriers before you board the train or exit the train station. So, as my dad used his ticket, the barriers opened, he went through and just before it would close, I quickly followed him behind and passed through.
I don’t know why I did that.
But my first guess would be, it was the Naija sharp guy thinking that made me pass quickly without paying. My dad was terribly upset and asked me to return and pay.
A few months later, I got on a bus and with the same mindset of a ‘sharp guy’, I didn’t pay. Normally, there are..
