This is the x-ray of the knife in 85-year old Mrs. Fong’s body.
⠀
Like my previous Tweet of the video showing the stabbing— I sat on this photo & debated if showing it provided value & context. Here is why my team & I believe it can.
The knife impaled Ms. Fong’s body with such force the handle broke off and it was left there for emergency crews to remove. This is why she has the punctured lung.
This was not some pocket knife like in this stabbing I covered recently. The blade is bigger than Mrs. Fong’s arm.
Mrs. Fong’s grandson and I have been talking & I showed him this x-ray & explained the decision to share it.
He said in part “...we need to put as much pressure as possible to get this guy prosecuted.”
𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: after much discussion and debate, I am choosing to show you video I obtained from sources of the two Asian senior women were stabbed along Market Street this week.
There always has to be a purpose to what is shown. To show context.
In this case my team and I felt like it was important to see what happened so you understand how serious this crime is— as you learn the previous criminal history of the suspect.
You can see how calmly the suspect approaches
⠀
There are others in the area but the women are the clear targets.
⠀
A bystander rushed to help. More came shortly after.
⠀
I spoke to one yesterday who cradled Mrs. Fong while SFPD arrived (3/5) #AAPI
The grandson and his family have requested privacy during this time. I promise them I would learn as much as I could about their suspected perpetrator and his record.
Here is the only real @gofundme the Eng family has set up.
Grandson Andrew says he doesn’t like asking for a handout but that his grandma really needs the support. I told him the community wants to help ❤️ bit.ly/3enyEBv
Sources tell me this happened at the 4th/Stockton intersection. Suspect not yet in custody.
A man is in custody. He appears to have a thin build and some say he lives/hangs around the area. That’s the only suspect description I can share right now.
@KateABC7 working story tonight for @abc7newsbayarea & learned the suspect was apprehended along Eddy.
The tourist family were from Chicago & on their way to the airport. Here is their luggage, which Hudson & Jeremy managed to save.
Jeremy told me break-ins happen ALL the time & most of their staff have had their cars broken into. One 9+ times! #AAPI
Jeremy & Hudson have been so fed up about the attacks on Asians & crime in general they started a group called Asians Are Strong which promotes unity & being proactive not passive.
Here you see staff of @PainaSF when they hear the break-in happening outside. (3/4) #AAPIHM
Carl as advocated tirelessly for Asian Americans as they’ve been attacked in Oakland.
He said he mustered up all his strength after being called a slur, stood up after getting hit in the back of the head & took a picture of the man he says attacked him

Patrick Elliott & his family were on a CA road trip & visited Fisherman’s Wharf Monday

Documents I obtained show Carlos Claros approached the family with 2 associates & showed a gun & attempted to take cell phones
⠀
Patrick said Claros called them “you Asians” and spit on one relative.
I discovered Claros has an extensive criminal history incl. drug & stolen car possession last year & involvement in strong-armed robbery spree in late 2019 spanning multiple neighborhoods.
He was on probation during the Fisherman’s Wharf incident
