We are at the point in the Climate Action Committee CAC where departments try to put the put the public to sleep so we won't notice what their recommendations are. Looking at you, @NYSDOT! #CLCPA
People, we are in BIG trouble. The @NYSDOT commissioner says this "after" photo perfectly illustrates "smart growth." A huge, useless median simply does not facilitate more walking, biking, transit, all the things we need to reduce VMT in New York State. What is going on?!?!
Hairpulling now commencing: Commissioner is calling Uber, Lyft, and Via "micromobility." How is this possible? At this stage in the game and with this much at stake? #ClimateActionCouncil@NYSDOT, you simply MUST do better. @NYGovCuomo
I mean, just look at the MESS mumbo jumbo of very important ideas that they have put in the "public transportation" bucket?!? These are the experts guiding our state's transportation policy as it pertains to #ClimateAction? It looks like a middle school presentation. Insulting.
Have NONE of these council members heard of the #CCIA? This is how we fund these essential climate-saving initiatives: Make polluters pay. Market-based "solutions" simply encourage industry to keep polluting. @ACE_newyork, you just sound so insincere.
Thank you, Bob Howarth @Cornell for raising a warning that very few "biofuels" will actually help us achieve #CLCPA mandates without creating co-pollutants, additional harm. They can't be considered offsets in accounting mechanisms. More Common Sense like this, please!
OHHHHH, if we have to hear more fear-mongering from National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation about how supply might not meet demand during transition, we will get nowhere. Why are they on this Council? They contribute nothing, ignore reality. Bogus "concerns" should be ignored.
Next is @IPPNYORG, another industry group saying Gee, thanks for committing to market-based solutions. That's all we need to know to see that this is NOT the direction NY State should be going to solve our #climatecrisis. #CAC hasn't committed to anything yet. Still time to fix.
Good to hear from @greenwatchdogNY insisting on complete elimination of carbon emissions from transportation sector. We simply can't have 23% not covered by 2050. Calls bogus on "carbon neutrality" as it pertains to transpo. Can't offset via TCI to protect frontline communities.
Yes! Peter Iwanowicz @greenwatchdogNY explicitly calls for passage of the #CCIA as a way to ensure that funding is available for a #JustTransition in ways desired most by most impacted communities. Thank you, Peter.
My brain assuaged from exploding upon hearing @NYSDEC Commissioner say these carbon reducing mandates "can" be deployed in frontline communities, by @NYRenews repeating the need for metrics and accountability to guarantee this happens. "Can" isn't strong enough. We need MUST.
