A short history of #Israel, centuries of #AntiSemitism, the resiliency of the Jewish people, and the current misinformation crusade propagated by Saudi dollars : THREAD 👇
Almost a millennia before Christ was born, there existed the Kingdom of Israel and Kingdom of Judah, occupying the same geography that modern-day Israel and #Palestine inhabit.
It endured multiple conquests and massacres at the hands of the Babylon, the Roman, and the Persian empire for centuries. However, the final Roman-Jewish war left over 2 million Jews dead over the course of the first 2 centuries of the modern period.
From the 3rd to 6th century, the area became predominantly Christian. Then in the early 7th century, the Arabs invaded and maintained control over Israel for another 300-400 years rotating between the various Caliphates.
In the 11th century, the Holy Church sponsored crusades globally. The Jews weren't spared either. The Seige of Jerusalem in the last year of the 11th century culminated in the massacre of 60,000 Jews; the ones lucky to be alive scattered.
The tussle between the Crusaders and the Caliphates continued for over half a millenia. Israel was exchanged between the Ayyubid, the Mamluk, and the Ottoman empire. And that continued till World War 1 when the British Empire gained control of the territory.
However, Jews settled abroad were not having an easy life. Anti-Semitism has been entrenched deeply in every place they were in. They were blamed for the Black Death in Europe, forced to convert to Christianity/Islam in the Middle East and Spain.
The Crusades killed and expelled hundreds of thousands of Jews from England, France, Germany, and Austria from the 12th to the 15th century. In the mid of 17th century, hundreds of thousands of Jews were massacred in Poland, Lithuania, and Germany.
In 18th century, the same pattern was seen in Russia under various Czars and empresses, primarily Czar Nicholas II, who declared "One third of the Jews must die, one third must emigrate, and one third be converted to Christianity".
In the 20th we all know what happened in Germany. And this is when we go back to the beginning.
The Jewish diaspora abroad realized that as long as they were in minority, they'd never be at peace. Christians and Muslims hated them alike. They had no place in US, ME, or EU.
The Zionist movement started gaining traction - calls for a nation where Jews could live in peace. Israel was the obvious choice since it was their birthplace.
Finally the British Mandate came into being.
In Nov 1947, the UN adopted a resolution to partition Palestine into Israel and Palestine. While the Jews mostly welcome it, the Arab nations rejected it wholeheartedly.
Like Duryodhan in the Mahabharata, they would not even spare "5 villages"
On 14 May, 1948, the modern state of Israel formally came into being. However the celebrations were short-lived. On the 15th, the newborn state was attacked by a coalition of Armies from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi. The wars continued till 1949.
Israel lost 1% of its population but ultimately prevailed. It also conquered half of Palestine and has since retained control. Another war, the 6-day war, broke out in 1967, with the same players and the same outcome - the quashing of the neighboring countries by Israeli forces.
The plight of the Jewish people is heartbreaking. But their resilience is even more astounding. Imagine being hated by all religions and nations across centuries and millenia. Imagine finally getting a small piece of land surrounded by the same people who wish to exterminate you.
Imagine having to build the most advanced missile tracking and destroying technology (because that was needed). Imagine living under the constant fear of attack and hearing siren bells go off anytime during the day.
But Israel endures. It has and it will.
Christians are the state/majority religion in about 4 dozen nations. Muslims in 3 dozen. Hindus are confined to 2. Jews to 1.
And the former 2 are the ones always claiming victimhood.
Saudi sponsored media outlets will tell you that Israel is bombing Palestine and killing innocents. But who sponsors Hamas? How can Palestine claim innocence if they condone Hamas' ideology?
"The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him." - Hamas Covenant, Article 7
Ever since it came to being, Hamas has attacked Israel again and again through rockets and suicide bombing.
They follow the same tactics of brainwashing kids and using innocents as human shields.
And when Israel retaliates, the propaganda machinery comes into full-swing.
No one discusses Hamas and its extremist influence in Gaza. No one discusses state-sponsored Islamic terrorism from the Gulf. No one talks about how Britain fucked up yet another two-state solution. No one talks about the constant fear Israelis live in.

Imagine being an ethnicity that was faced the worst massacre in recent human history.
Imagine being driven from every other place and given a narrow strip of land and told that this is home.
Imagine being surrounded on all sides by countries that all want to kill you.
That is Israel.
Locked on all sides by Islamic countries who have tried to eradicate it but faced the "Wrath of God" during the Six Day War, having their asses handed to them.
Even today, Hamas routinely launches missiles aimed at the population centers like Tel Aviv routinely.
So much so that Israel had to come up with the most advanced missile tracking and countering system called the Iron Dome.
The ongoing fiasco surrounding some of the hottest Indian #EdTechStartups has shown that Indian parents need to change the way they think about their kids' future.
A THREAD!
The only way companies can get away with charging lakhs for rudimentary classes is because #parents are willing to pay that. And it is understandable to some extent. Both parents nowadays hold jobs. They can't spend much time with their kids.
To assuage their guilt, they throw their hard-earned money at these startups, thinking "We are spending as much as possible on our kids. We're good parents!"
STOP!
Not only are you financially harming your family, but you are also likely ruining learning for the kids.
With #Article370 being abolished, a quick thread on the man who started it all - Syama Prasad Mukherjee - and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's dubious involvement in his "death".
Syama Prasad Mukherjee (stylized Mookerjee in many places) was one of the first leaders of the precursors to the RSS and BJP — Hindu Mahasabha and Jan Sangh. Although he was part of the first Nehru cabinet , the two did not really see eye-to-eye on many matters.
Foremost of them being the application of Section 370 on Kashmir. In the initial years of Independence, Kashmir, apart from having their own separate flag and constitution, also had a separate Prime Minister, the “Sadr-e-riyasat”.
