Behind scenes across #Glasgow there were acts of kindness yesterday & just sheer practical care - folk ensuring food & water supplied, phone calls, peace talks & messages zigzagging every network. People sitting with those dawn-raided or detained in past & shaken to core 💚🙏🏾💚
This doesn’t happen by accident. This is built up over years of many strong small organisations that mean everyone’s who fae somewhere can know someone. The kinds of community trust #KenmureStreet demonstrates was also policy in Scotland over 10 years #NewScots
The policy is built from the ground up, through many, many grassroots organisations, NGOs, public service & endless practical & caring and sometimes fraught conversations & debates. Social bonds are actively foster BECAUSE it keeps people safe. And our neighbours. #NewScots
Asylum dispersal was supposed to stop this happening. It didn’t. Integration networks grew that integrated, grew new leaders in communities, dismissed reliance on the early teachers. 15 years ago this was small, fragile, inexperienced. Now it literally has a life of its own.
These days it’s hard to list how many different extraordinary community actions there are - that are like Bruce Lee’s water - mingling and moving behind the scenes. It’s now longer just the 3 usual suspects. In 2014 & 2015 massive political community education began organically.
Whilst some funds were available much was voluntary. Glasgow is rightly famed for this. It organises practically & culturally. Gathers, speaks, listens, gallus in its endless conversation never afraid of argument.

We’ve hard days ahead. The @ukhomeoffice is hell bent on cruelty and has an entirely different ideological understand and fear fed action agenda. I am under no illusions.
