It just took 12 hours for a family's life to go haywire. This is a #COVID19 horror story from #Hyderabad that left me gutted. This is something which all #CovidWarriors go through behind the scenes of SOS calls.
Father was ex-employee in #Telangana secretariat, mom a housewife, son & daughter in college. All diagnosed with #COVID19 around the same time & were in home quarantine. Last Saturday, mom developed breathing problems. After using references got admitted to a hosp in Kukatpally.
Dad develops complications in a few hours but doesn't get bed in the same hospital. Contacts worked out to get him a bed by night in a hospital in Banjara Hills.
At 1 am, mom feels a bit better. Dad was stable when admitted. 3 hours later son calls my friend saying dad passed away. Friend arranges for funeral in Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam. They decide not to tell mother as she will panic. Wait for 7 am till priests come to cemetery.
At 6 am, they get a call that mom in serious. My friend suggests the girl to be brave & go to hospital as guy should do dad's cremation. Girl, unwillingly pushes off. An hour later, she calls my friend. "Akka, amma kuda poyaru," she wails!
Son breaks down. Pointing to the sky, he exclaims, "You're a murderer!". Boy & girl orphaned in a day. They have to live through this horrific memory for the rest of their lives. Relatives in #Rajahmundry & #Hyderabad haven't visited them for over a week and talk only over phone.
As narrated by @iyer_purnima who was constantly involved in the ordeal and helped those kids with food, motivation, coordinating with docs & funeral. She didn't knew them at all and herself recovered from #COVID19 recently.
The point of me writing this is that, sometimes all people need is emotional support in these testing times and #CovidWarriors are doing a fab job but we need more people to lend a helping hand-morally, if not financially.
