"High on Vicodin, I had promised myself bright red hair as a gift for surviving. And also tattoos as a way of reclaiming my body....The tattoos would be a marking - permanent - of my choosing. But of what?" feministgiant.com/p/essay-the-ki…
And now, I'm thinking of what next to ink on my body after the pandemic and perimenopause. How best to honour leaving behind what I used to be and emerging into what I am becoming?

"Attention seeker" is a quick way to diminish a person.
The further you are from whiteness, cisheteropatriarchy, thinness, femininity, being able-bodied, youth, etc the less attention you are allowed.
Attention is both reward and punishment. It is how patriarchy regulates us.
Calling Demi Lovato an “attention seeker” for expressing an opinion you want to shut down is meant to undermine their original point, shaming them for speaking & diminish their intellectual authority.
My next FEMINIST GIANT essay is about how Reps. @IlhanMN and Rashia Tlaib have upended U.S. politics vis a vis Israel. e.g. Omar has called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu what he is: a "far-right ethno-nationalist."
That is the power of a progressive Black and woman of colour in politics. Remember that as well as being the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, Omar and Tlaib question power unaccustomed to being disturbed.
It is my ambition to liberate ambition from accumulation of wealth and accumulation of the crumbs of patriarchy. I don't crumbs. I want the whole cake. And not patriarchy's cake! feministgiant.com/p/essay-my-amb…
Too often the story of ambition has been written by and for middle and upper class white women and then presented to the rest of us as pre-packaged ambition for our consumption.
I don't want to be a CEO. I don't want to be a billionaire. Now what?
Happy Born Day, Lorraine Hansberry: May 19, 1930 – January 12, 1965.
She is one of my heroes for the way her writing and activism combined feminism, lesbianism, leftist politics, and fighting racism lambdaliterary.org/2014/02/twice-…
Twice militant: I love this quote by #LorraineHansberry. I use it as an epigraph in The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls.
Nina Simone said on her friendship with #LorraineHansberry: “Lorraine started off my political education, and through her I started thinking about myself as a Black person in a country run by white people and a woman in a world run by men.” lithub.com/young-gifted-a…
The rate of positive coronavirus tests in Gaza has been among the highest in the world, at 28 percent. Before Israel began its airstrikes on #Gaza, Doctors Without Borders were warning of an alarming increase in #COV19 cases
"People in the Palestinian Territories, including health care workers, remain in urgent need of vaccines. Only about five percent of Palestinians had been vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of April. Many health care workers have not even received their first dose of vaccine"
11 of over 60 children killed by Israeli air strikes in Gaza over the last week were participating in a Norwegian psycho-social programme aimed at helping them deal with trauma. via @samahhadid h/t @rerutled nrc.no/news/2021/may/…
"We are devastated to learn that 11 children we were helping with trauma were bombarded while they were at home and thought they were safe," said NRC's Secretary General Jan Egeland.
"They are now gone, killed with their families, buried with their dreams and the nightmares that haunted them. We call on Israel to stop this madness: children must be protected. Their homes must not be targets. Schools must not be targets...Stop bombing them now." #Gaza
