WIV wanted to replicate Menachery's experiments (2015/2016) to see if the 11 novel SARSr-COV strains could also replicate in hACE2 mice:
"Animal infection experiments indicated SL-CoV WIV1 & SHC014 could replicate efficiently & caused low pathogenesis in ACE2 transgenic mice"

Which exact two viruses Ben HU chose to use we are not sure yet, one maybe from this series of 11 discussed above, hopefully we will find out soon.
Ben Hu wished to replicate these US experiments in his state funded project using at least one of the 11 novel strains identified.
Important elements are the historical context, techniques used (Menachery, Baric, etc) and the flow/aims of experiments.
