After slew of privatization in first decades of the post-war period, Salvadorans organized in mass to push back to save healthcare, water, education from pro-corporate restructuring & plunder. US embassy & IDB have always insisted on ignoring the will of the masses on this. 2/
I never get tired of sharing this article as a very clear example of this: nacla.org/news/el-salvad…
This is what ppl like Saca, Bukele, & Biden mean when they talk about “fixing” the country’s water, healthcare, education system. 3/
Today’s $1 billion IDB loan will go towards “fixing” (I think we can bet a lot of $ on this meaning “privatizing”) the country’s education system. 4/
Also, my bad... I get confused with billion in Spanish.. post i quote tweeted refers to a $100 million loan... however, this is just one if several hundreds of millions related to education (amongst a historic nearly $7 billion debt accrued in #Bukele’s first 2 years). 6/

Despite mass organizing & wide disapproval of dollarization, CAFTA & pro-privatization policies (intended to privilege the private sector w/in essential goods & services... bc you know... trickle down blah blah blah)...
Despite the fact that their financing of military & police to protect private property has clearly lead to death & disappearances of land defenders in the region...
