In school, memorization is rewarded.

In the real world, understanding is.
Understanding leads to memorization of the right things

Memorization does not always lead to an understanding of the right things.
Let's talk a bit about the difference between school education and real world education

Just because the 2 phrases have 'education' does not mean they are being used the same way
'Does school and real world have anything in common?'

Yes

Both of them have 3 variables in common:

-Theory
-Thinking
-Experience
Theory, thinking & experience provides the backbone of education

But HOW they are used are vastly different from school vs real world
In School, the order of importance is:

1. Theory
2. Thinking
3. Experiences

For them, theory is king
Thinking comes down to critical thinking

How well can you make rational conclusions from information?

Guess how school measures thinking skills?

'Uh...'

Through tests & quizzes
Test and quizzes measure how well the theory was digested

In school, picture theory as the cake

And experiences as the icing on the cake
Many subjects in formal education do not factor in experiences

If you get it, that's seen as a bonus.

But their order of importance comes down from knowing the laws, rules & content
In the Real World, the order of importance is:

1. Experiences
2. Thinking
3. Theory
Experiences come down to first-hand interaction with the subject matter

Sure, some theory may get the ball rolling

But the experiences are now seen as the cake
Thinking faculties are measured based on how well you can think through first-hand experiences

How well you can make sense of your OWN data points
After making sense of your own data points, the theory takes up a new life

It adds formula's and frameworks which can help you spot good experiences from subpar experiences
Understanding the difference between school education and real-world education shows why memorization can be leveraged in 1 field and not the other
Memorizing is great

Cramming for an exam & passing is great

You proved you can perform when your back is against the wall

The question is....do you understand it in a practical sense?
In the real world, it's best to lead with the understanding mindset

Because understanding allows for memorization of the right things

Rather than the memorization of all things
It's kind of like that C- student who wrote down every last bit of notes in the lecture

While the A+ student wrote down the relevant notes

The C- student got a D on the exam

The A+ student got an A+
Knowledge was never power

Knowledge tied into personal experiences is power
Education stems from the latin phrases educare & educere

Educare = To mold

Educere = To lead out
Both of these roots show the importance of true understanding of the material

And material is impossible to understand without personalized experiences over time
Leading with the understanding mindset blazes thru analysis paralysis

And allows you to read the right theory over time
Memorization is a great faculty

But memory is simply a tool

A servant at best

Treating the memory as the master produces monstrosity
Lead with experiences

Learn to think through experiences

And theory serves as the cherry on top

Mentality HACK:

View boring tasks as 'focus sharpeners'

-doing the dishes
-folding laundry
-cleaning your room

Exercising your focus in one area of your life spills over to other parts

While everyone is doing these tasks with negativity, you're doing it to level up your mind
With the right lens, anything becomes an opportunity to build focus

The ability to stay in the present
Boring tasks are a great candidate because of the pattern

'Pattern with what?'

Pattern with the gym...

The secret to creativity is a lack of planning.
That's not to say discipline is lacking.

'But a lacking of planning means a lack of discipline, no?'

Not quite..

Maintain discipline

Be unpredictable with content
Structured chaos is the name of the game.

Creativity can be an excuse to live a life of a slob

But that's misguided thinking

Social Law:

1. Keep your friend circle small. This allows for stronger bonds & fewer snakes.

2. Keep your acquaintance circle large. This allows for more versatility & networking opportunities.
'Seems like the law is backwards?'

Nope.

It's in the correct way

Mistaking it as being backwards will cause a lot of tension...

Self-education is different from education.

1. Education is when you learn something because you have to.

2. Self-education is when you learn because you want to.
In a world where people educate, self educate

That's how you stick out
Learning for fun seems like a foreign concept.

'That's because it is!'

No, it's not.

'Yes, it is..'

Actually let's put the spotlight on you
