At today's White House press briefing @PressSec Psaki on the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act: "It is exactly the right forum to help rebuild trust in communities."
The White House feels lawmakers are "making progress" on the bill.
Qualified immunity is the wedge issue.
But in back to the reality of gridlock in Washington.
Psaki then acknowledges it is "unlikely" lawmakers will pass something before the anniversary of George Floyd's death. However, there will be a ceremony at the White House next week marking the anniversary. @CourthouseNews
For what the WH can do in terms of getting lawmakers to pass the bill, Psaki says the admin s "not going to slow its efforts to get this done" and that the White House will be "transparent" about it potentially taking longer to pass than next week. End of summer possible.
Psaki was asked what "rebuilding trust in communities means." She didn't get into it in-depth but offered a few of the bullet points/buzzwords commonly associated with "rebuilding trust": regulations and accountability.
Psaki says that reinstating the WH initiative on AAPI is something that will be re-established under the Biden admin. More in the weeks ahead.

BREAKING: An attempt initiated by Republicans to send the $1.9B Capitol security emergency spending bill back to committee has failed, 209-208 after an hour long procedural vote. Now, lawmakers begin voting on final passage of the bill. @CourthouseNews
There was also hesitancy today to pass the final bill by progressive members in the House who questioned whether certain officers might have been complicit in 1/6 attack. It now looks, however, that the bill will pass after some negotiating. More soon.
Reps Jamal Bowman and Rashida Tlaib voted present for today's vote approving $1.9B in Capitol Security funding. Ilhan Omar voting no.
Here's a copy of the legislation vesting $1.9B for Cap security that is being voted on today. But of course, if you don't want to read it through, I'll break it down for you later today for @CourthouseNews. govinfo.gov/content/pkg/BI…
And how did lawmakers get to $1.9B? On recommendations issued by Russel Honore in the 1/6 Task Force review that was published in March.

.@PressSec Psaki on Biden admin position on Israel/Palestine: Every single action we take is with the objective to end violence on ground.
And some convos between leaders right now will not be things she discusses at the podium
Why not call for a ceasefire?
Psaki says right now they are focused on deescalating on the ground and having these convos behind the scenes is the "most constructive approach." "Quiet, intensive diplomacy" is how WH is currently describing its approach w. Israel/Palestine
Over 60 calls in last week with a range of partners in the region, Psaki says of Biden.
A two state solution is the only way to bring an end to the violence, Psaki says.
