For thousands of years, Ethiopian Jews would quote the Jewish phrase, "next year in Jerusalem."

In 1991, following Operation Moses in 1984, this dream became a reality for the 14,300 Jews airlifted to #Israel during Operation Solomon.

This is their story:

📸@MoDIsrael Image
Following civil unrest & political instability in Ethiopia, putting the Jewish community at risk, on May 24-25, 1991, Israel airlifted 14,300 Ethiopian Jews to Israel in a special mission titled #OperationSolomon.
📸@MoDIsrael
Israel chartered 35 aircrafts, including Israeli Air Force C-130s, in a clandestine mission to rescue 14,000+ Ethiopian Jews and safely bring them to Israel within 36 hours.

In order to rescue as many people as possible, the seats of the planes were removed. Image
At 5:00PM on May 25, the first plane landed in Tel Aviv making history as one of Israel's most complex and emotional missions since the country's founding. Image
30 years later, we remember this historic mission which brought our Ethiopian brothers & sisters to 🇮🇱, fulfilling the dream of their forefathers to return to their Jewish homeland.

I was born in Debrecen, Hungary to an ultra-Orthodox family.

Under my father Yaakov Elimelech's direction, I spent my childhood studying religious and Jewish texts.

My fondest memory is studying the weekly Torah Portion with my father.

850,000 Jews called Arab lands & Iran home for centuries.

That all changed when #Israel become a state in 1948. In the years that followed, Jews were forced to flee en mass, fearing for their lives.

Linda Menuhin was one of these refugees. Today she's sharing her story.
My name is Linda Abdul Aziz Menuhin & this is my story.

I was born in 1950 to an affluent Jewish family in Baghdad, at a time when most Jews had already fled Iraq.

I had a lovely childhood filled with the things that most children experience. Friends, playdates, family.
To give you some background, Iraq was home to one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world, going back to 586 BC.

Jews were an integral part of Iraq's tapestry & in the 1920s were 25% of Bagdad's population.

We had our own schools, hospitals, synagogues & welfare system.

A mossad mission, a clandestine flight and six #Persian fallow deer.

We're about to tell you an unbelievable true story.
Here we go:

The Persian Fallow Dear which dominated the Israeli landscape during biblical times went extinct in the earlier twentieth century.

In the 1950's a tiny herd was discovered in Iran.
During this time, Israel & the Shah of Iran negotiated a deal to bring two members of the herd to Israel, but nearly two decades later & the deer remained in Iran.

Israeli authorities nearly gave up hope that the Fallow Deer would ever make it to Israel until..

Sundays were made for watching TV 📺 reruns of our favorite sitcoms on the couch.

So we did....and found our favorite #Israel references.

Chandler: What's a Kiryat Moriah?

Ross: The place with the cheap rooms we stayed at in Israel.

#Nostalgia
Here's another favorite of ours from "The Nanny":

Fran: When I was 16, I went on a Kibbutz and I had the time of my life.

Maggie: A Kibbutz? Isn't that like one of those hippie communes from the 60s?

Fran: Well, yeah except the only thing we smoked was fish.
Fun fact: @frandrescher won over the hearts of millions of
Israelis when she came to Israel in 1995 and was interviewed on national TV.

We ♥️ you Fran!

My name is Miki Goldman. I'm a survivor of #Auschwitz which was liberated 75 years ago today. Today I'll be taking over the State of 🇮🇱 account to share my story & help make sure that the 🌍 never forgets the #Holocaust. RT this and reply with your questions. #HowMikiSurvived
I was born in Katowize, Poland in 1925. When WWII began I escaped with my parents and siblings to Przemysl. From there I was deported to the Szebnie camp & in November 1943, I was transferred to Auschwitz until the liquidation of the camp in Jan. 1945. #HowMikiSurvived #HMD2020 Me and my classmates before the Holocaust. Unfortunately, I never saw many of them again.
@AuschwitzMuseum @USCShoahFdn @Fondation_Shoah @HolocaustUK @HolocaustMuseum @HMD_UK @HolocaustCentUK @wienerlibrary On January 17, as the Red Army was approaching, the Nazis evacuated the camp & led us on a death march. Many people died from hunger & hypothermia along the way. I escaped by pretending to be dead in the snow & was hidden by polish peasants. #HowMikiSurvived #HMD2020 #Auschwitz75
