Thread: These past few years have been hard & have tested us mentally, physically & emotionally.
Pres. Biden has been the leader we desperately needed. Yet, from voter suppression to attacks on the Capitol itself, the Trumpian GOP is doing all it can to destroy our democracy.
We can’t sit back & be casual observers at the GOP attempts to cripple America. If this nation means anything, then we all must roll up our sleeves to do everything to preserve & improve it.
This is an all hands on deck moment. There will be no individual saviors… it’s just us!
We all must “hold the door!”
We all must stand up against those trying to take us back to darker times.
Over the next few days, weeks, and months I need you to: volunteer, make calls, write letters, knock doors, register voters, & support candidates and local parties. We must be prepared to save our Democracy because friends…#WeWillNotGoBack
I want to talk to you tonight about the egregious anti-voter bill we’re seeing in Texas. @JoeBiden just called this part of an assault on democracy. And he’s right. This is Jim Crow 2.0, plain and simple. #SB7
This bill has some of the worst anti-voter measures in the country. What they’ve come up with has got my blood boiling. They want to:
❌ Ban drive-thru voting
❌ Cut back early voting hours
❌ Further clamp down on vote-by-mail rules #SB7
They’re jamming it through on the Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend. If they’re intent on jamming this bill through, I’m intent on making sure we fight back with every breath in our bodies. #SB7
Since we elected @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris, our country has made great strides on the road to recovery, and @TheDemocrats have been working hard to advance their agenda. We rely on grassroots donors to power our work, and I want to explain why your donation matters now.
While we’ve come so far, we can’t let up. That’s why we launched the Democratic Fight Fund, dedicated to electing Democrats to expand our majority in 2021, 2022, and beyond. It will empower state parties and campaigns to fight for every seat, not just historically blue ones.
We are making historic investments in state parties and grassroots infrastructure—which is a big deal for the committee during an off year. It will ensure we can keep building the organization and programs that will support our candidates the moment their general elections begin.
Today, I want to celebrate and thank some important Mothers in my life. First, my mom. My mom was young when she had me. I’ve never seen someone so young, work so hard, with so little & do so much. My mom makes me happy when I’m sad & keeps me focused on my purpose- Doing Good!
Next, my wife Marie. I’m the luckiest man on the planet because I married today’s Renaissance woman. Intelligent, beautiful, creative, thoughtful & a heart of gold. But her best superpower is that she is an amazing mom! My boys and I are so blessed to have her in our lives!
My grandma, Ms. Bookie. From ironing, to sewing, to cooking to fishing… my grandma was always teaching me & showing me how to be the best Jaime I could be. She is the rock 🪨 & ❤️ of our family. Her love is a blessing to us all!
We know we need to be organizing and building power year-round. That’s why we’re investing $20 million in states before the general election begins to ensure Democrats win in 2021 and 2022—our earliest and largest midterm investment ever. With this investment, we're:
Protecting the right to vote: Across the country, the GOP is attacking the right to vote. So we’re launching our biggest voter protection program ever. We’re embedding experts in critical states and expanding existing programs like IWillVote.com and our voter hotline.
Modernizing the organizing process: We have more than 200,000 active online volunteers ready to mobilize—and that number will continue to grow. We’re expanding our digital organizing infrastructure, and deploying these volunteers in 2021 elections and early voter reengagement.
The spirit of Lee Atwater is still alive and well in today’s GOP. We hear the dog whistles. Folks like Mitch & Haley probably haven’t even read the 1619 project. But, why is it divisive to teach folks about the treatment of & contributions made by Blacks in this nation?
Our racial history as a nation is painful to say the least & that historic pain from unrelenting racial inequality is pervasive & still lives with us today. We can’t ignore it. We can’t forget it but must learn from it so as to be better, do better & make sure to never repeat it.
Kind of ironic that folks who won’t say a peep about grown folks dressed up and re-enacting battles of the war about slavery, yet are quick to want Black folks, who every day live with remnants of that period, to just move on. If it were just that easy.
HELP IS HERE!!! @JoeBiden@KamalaHarris@HouseDemocrats@SenateDems have hit the ground running helping Americans deal w/ the impact of COVID. The Republicans??? Nothing, unless reading Dr. Seuss & playing w/ Mr. Potato Head counts. Did your Senators help?
Let's see... @scdp
