(1/10) The new #SB7 language is completely unacceptable and only has one real goal: to suppress the votes of minorities and disabled Texans. I agree with @POTUS, this bill is an assault on our democracy. #Txlege
Texas is ranked the hardest state to vote in, according to the “cost-of-voting index.” Instead of trying to solve the inherent problems in our election code, such as the lack of online voter registration and no-excuse absentee ballots, Texas Republicans are focused on limiting...

As Vice Chair of the Elections Committee, we’ve been fighting against voter suppression all session. Using my knowledge from working at the Voting Rights Section for the U.S. Department of Justice and as the Voter Protection Director for President Obama’s reelection...
...campaign in Nevada, I have had a unique perspective fighting against voter suppression. There is no question #SB7 is voter suppression.
Throughout all the proceedings of the Elections Committee, Democrats have been left out of the conversation and continuously disrespected. This was no different in the conference committee.
Now Republicans are trying to pass #SB7 with new language that was not discussed, and the public was not allowed to testify on.
All session, Republicans have prioritized all their red meat issues, from attacking trans children to essentially banning abortions in Texas, instead of focusing on pertinent issues affecting our state like #COVID19 relief and electric grid reform.
And priorities they have not passed, they have threatened special sessions to pass them. With #SB7, Republicans continue to show they do not care about the values of our Democracy. I urge all Texans to contact their Representatives to vote against SB 7.
I will not stop fighting for your right to vote. #Txlege
