Back in high school our rookie HC thought he'd could just throw us right into the fire vs powerhouse St. Rita. The instant we walked off the bus we were shell shocked by the stadium.

It looked like a prison yard.

We got destroyed 31-0.

But then, I discovered something.

Before the game, the white players made the mistake of reading a local sport writer's predictions. He hadn't just predicted we'd lose, he took joy in making fun of our chances. They were very good, after all.

But after the game, the white players kept saying "How did he know?"

We would've probably lost anyway, but that's when I knew we never had a chance, because they just gave in to the prediction at the first sign of trouble. Then, the next week it was "St. Francis De Sales, another Chicago powerhouse. Like I said, the rookie HC's idea of genius."

The quotes were unnecessary but anyway

The same sports writer predicted we'd lose again, but this time we only lost 14-7. But, it was difficult to even my best friend to realize the improvement, because after the game the same sports writer dogged him in the recap with quotes like "hands like feet." Fcked him all up.

We ended up going 0-9 that season, but guess what happened to Mr. Sports writer? Well, he ended up working for the Chicago Sun-Times. He parlayed dissing high school football players into a huge promotion. He may still work in Chicago sports radio to this day.

That was my introduction to grown ass men using children - or even young adults - as a stepping stone for their own ambition. That's also why I have no problem with what Naomi Osaka's doing. If you don't look out for yourself, no one else will.

I could add that there was always a personality clash between me and my high school coach, mainly because I was silly 6' 2" 260 lb high school senior who could never take my five foot tall head coach seriously and yelling at me only made it sillier.
