Uncoordinated, unregulated, private delivery has been underwritten by LNP at every turn (using $bn's of public $). Expanding "markets" like those in insecure work or new private contracts in hotels, GPs, social srvcs is 1 focus. The other? Preventing public sector expansion. 2/6
If quality & trust in public services increases (say, off back of global pandemic crisis), it takes yrs for conservative govts to unwind - thru politically-orchestrated public sctr failure (underfunding). When ppl are pissed funds then redirected to "efficient" private hands. 3/6
Big problem: once govt gravy train flows, insufficient regulation & corruption sees firms abandon LT benchmarks. Result? Mass wage suppression, maggots in wounds, preventable deaths. A few RC's & outrage later, we might get more regulation. But NEVER public in-housing. 4/6
The fed govt are clinging to failed economic ideology. Contracts to multiple competing for-profit interests are INCAPABLE of coordinating swift national pandemic response. We dont have time for "market maturation" if it means the needless destruction of lives, jobs & biz. 5/6
Good news is we already have national public health infrastructure. Its called MEDICARE. & its KING! Ppl love & trust it. Its why LNP spent decades trying (& failing) to dismantle it. Yrs operating w-out sufficient funds means its best equipped for crisis. Fund it. Expand it. 6/6
