The true, bloody, and brutal story of Antifa, Abolish the Police, and Black Lives Matter is following exactly the same trajectory as the Wuhan lab leak story. The truth was dismissed as a conspiracy theory and ruthlessly suppressed until it could no longer be ignored.
With both the coronavirus origin and urban unrest stories, the media ran like a witless herd, easily manipulated by small groups of bad sources with big megaphones, easily stampeded away from listening to the "icky" people who happened to be telling the truth.
This is one reason it's important not to let the media get away with a half-hearted shrug of "golly, maybe we should have taken that lab leak theory seriously after all" and a bout of furious stealth-editing for their old callous dismissals. They keep DOING THIS. It's systemic.
It's a huge problem when our entire media apparatus - a very important element of democracy - keeps getting major stories wrong due to herd-think and political bias. It's a problem when the media doesn't report the truth until it becomes impossible to ignore it.
It's an especially big problem when we're not just talking about left-wing networks and newspapers misinforming their audience. We're talking about garbage media coverage being weaponized by Big Tech so the people telling the truth are ACTIVELY SUPPRESSED, not merely ignored.
If the information regime today had been fully operational in 2004, everyone who blew holes in Dan Rather's National Guard memo scam would have been silenced by Big Tech - their tweets deleted, their Facebook accounts nuked. The truth would have been prosecuted as disinformation.
The Wuhan lab leak theory was "discredited" by a handful of deeply conflicted scientists with ties to the Wuhan lab. They influenced a media that loathed Trump and all of his officials, handing them a packaged story that became "conventional wisdom" overnight.
And that wholly false narrative was then weaponized by lefty Big Tech into a censorship doctrine that silenced people who strayed from the packaged narrative. You got banned or flagged in 2020 for discussing what the media suddenly decided was acceptable in 2021.
This keeps HAPPENING. It happened again with urban violence from Antifa/Abolish the Police/Black Lives Matter. The same factors were in play: influential sources with a narrative to peddle, political biased reporters, the people telling the truth were icky.
It's been happening for a long time. Past decades are filled with left-wing sources easily manipulating biased reporters, media flocking like geese to follow each other's junk reporting, storytelling and "narratives" favored over the truth, partisan interests controlling press.
Students of media bias have troves of favorite stories about media firestorms sparked by dubious sources who weren't questioned because their stories fit the media's biases. Tiny groups could shoot off a couple of faxes and trigger comical avalanches of headline news.
But now we have censorship loops that run from corrupt sources >> Big Media >> Big Tech. Some of those loops begin with tweets and Facebook posts, bringing it full circle: Online chatter laundered through Big Media and hammered into censorship directives by online platforms.
Among many reasons to be deeply worried about this censorship loop: the Chinese Communist Party EXCELS at presenting packaged news stories to foreign media outlets. They spent huge amounts of money and thousands of man-hours perfecting such operations.

If our media remains as lazy, blinkered, biased, prejudiced, and gullible as what we've seen during the lab leak and urban violence debacles, it will be child's play for China and other hostile powers to use American media to further their malevolent political strategies.
The lab leak story was arguably China's first great success at doing so. The course of American politics was indisputably changed to Beijing's benefit by how the coronavirus was covered. Apologies and backpedaling from media today are WORSE than useless to the American people.
China got what it wanted from U.S. media's coverage of the coronavirus, and media is admitting the truth in a grudging and dishonest manner intended to deflect the serious criticism that could improve it. The systemic flaws remain - and our enemies know how to exploit them. /end

Fauci is the living embodiment of our big government Ineptocracy: a mediocre bureaucrat obsessed with his privileges and drunk on his taste of stardom, pawned off on the American people as a brilliant expert in a complex scientific field.
Fauci is far from the only bureaucrat misrepresented as a dispassionate scientific expert. It's the biggest running scam in Big Government. We're CONSTANTLY instructed to view selfish mediocrities who put politics first as selfless geniuses who know what's best for everyone.
Corruption is so endemic in this system that Big Government apparatchiks literally cannot see it. Many of them know they're corrupt and take steps to cover their graft, but some genuinely think of corrupt arrangements with special interests as just The Way Things Work.

China's demographic crisis is fascinating, and alarming, because it shows that even a brutal totalitarian hyper-nationalist government cannot reverse the demographic crash afflicting most industrialized populations. The core reason for the crash is becoming apparent...
... it's because having babies is HARD, especially on women.

That's the big secret lost during the latter half of the 20th Century that is slowly, painfully being rediscovered by the 21st, in both free and unfree societies. Everyone underestimated how hard child-rearing is.
That sounds simple and obvious, but let me assure you, it is anything BUT obvious to political elites, everywhere from Western democracies to Communist China. They all convinced themselves family formation and child-rearing are purely materialistic processes, almost industrial.

Why does Marxist thought inspire so much violence? It goes back to that core oppression narrative, the notion that private ownership of capital is exploitation and free societies are SYSTEMICALLY corrupt (or "racist" in the currently fashionable iteration of Marxist theory.)
Of course every collectivist, statist philosophy is inherently violent, because sooner or later they must use force to compel obedience, but Marxism gets to looting, burning, beating, and killing VERY quickly because it sells itself as a revolution against systemic corruption.
We don't reflect enough on how every exercise of state power is an implicit threat to use force. As I believe Walter Williams once put it, even the most benign-sounding law ends with an implied "... or you'll be killed," because that is the final outcome of disobedience.

I got in one really big fight in grade school. I was a Catholic kid living in a pleasant, mostly Jewish neighborhood. One day I saw some Jewish classmates picking on a very small Orthodox boy for wearing his yarmulke. My friends and I stepped in to defend him. Punches flew.
The aftermath, when everyone was cooling their heels in detention, involved us comically confused Christian kids asking the Orthodox boy what the yarmulke was, why he wore it to school, and why the heck would other Jewish kids give him a hard time about it.
We didn't know what was going on that day. We just saw a little guy getting shoved around by a bunch of big guys. We learned a lot that day, and made a new friend who was part of our little outcast crew ever afterward. (Everything feels like forever when you're that age.)

It's like Tom Tuttle from Tacoma in "Volunteers." We sent over a tough-guy wrestler action star, and in two seconds flat we get back a sniveling toady regurgitating Communist propaganda.

Anybody still think globalist economic and cultural engagement will liberalize China?
You know what will put a stop to this disgusting cowardice from Hollywood? Make it cost more for them to suck up to China than it would cost to speak up for freedom and justice. Kill this Fast and Furious movie dead at the box office and scare the ever-loving hell out of studios.
Nothing ELSE will do it, that's for sure, China has proven that its "sharp power" policies - weaponizing its entire economy to serve the geopolitical interests of the Communist Party, using its financial leverage to compel obedience from "free" world corporations - WORKS.

The Left's infamous softness on crime flows from the core Marxist dynamic of oppressors vs. oppressed. If profit is theft, then thieves who steal from capitalism's unfair winners are just "taking back" what is rightfully theirs. Criminals have no agency.
This is why real-world experiences with crime and policing are always baffling to Democrat politicians and left-wing academics. They cannot accept the notion that criminals respond rationally to incentives and opportunities - i.e. intensive policing and prosecution reduce crime.
Leftist media tends to vomit out headlines like "Crime Rates Decline Despite Increase in Jail Population" because they cannot accept that policing and prosecution takes career criminals off the street and intimidates would-be lawbreakers by increasing the cost of crime.
