X : So, why aren't you a fan?
Me : The difference between old labour (which I am) and one nation tory is mostly hair splitting. This Gov however dresses up as one nation, it has a lot of questions to answer on integrity, financial prudence, lack of challenge etc.
X : Hence you think Labour would be better.
Me : I didn't say that. I don't know what Labour stands for at the moment, it's in a state of flux.

Me : I am. I wish to support it. However that does not mean I automatically agree with the executive,
X : But you were pro Corbyn?
Me : I agreed with the manifesto, the focus on more local efforts, the broad church, the revitalising of a movement ... yes. I didn't agree with everything but that's normal.
X : Starmer?
Me : We could do better.
X : Rail nationalisation, broadband, buses ... the Conservatives are more left wing than Labour.
Me : Lol, that's a cheap shot but yes, with policies under review (i.e. not there) then you can argue that the Conservatives are taking a more collective approach.
X : Labour isn't relevant anymore.
Me : I wouldn't agree. It has certainly lost its way and is being outplayed on many fronts. It needs to change its focus and build a new narrative at a local level. That'll take time, maybe a decade or so.
X : A coalition of the other parties?
Me : That's a tough one but all things are possible. First, Labour needs to get through its policy review and decide what it stands for. Then you'd need to come to some sort of agreement / arrangement with others and ego can play a destructive role here.
X : What are Labour's policies?
Me : At the moment, there is quite a bit of confusion - labourlist.org/2021/05/we-hav… - give it time. It needs to settle and find a new path.
X : Easy punches for the Tories?
Me : For now, yes.
X : Batley and Spen?
Me : Before that we have Chesham and Amersham. If Labour support collapses in both of those then we will know that this is not working. 100 days have gone, if signs that momentum isn't building in the right way are not there then it's not going to happen.
X : How bad are things at the moment?
Me : In terms of own goals? With policy up in the air? This sums it up -

Me : No, it's a little more complex than that but the perception is there. That's the problem with vacuums, other stuff will fill it. You need to be very clear what you stand for i.e.

Me : I am positive. It's just having difficulties at the moment. It will get through its review, it will find a new path.

Me : I'm not happy, I think he should have resigned. We shall see what he comes up with.

Me : Enormous potential ... wasted by launching far too early. It's going to be a long slog for them to recover but if they stick at it then it could be great.

... a lot depends upon them getting the modding community behind them. They need to work on that, building a community, providing tools. Not sure they're really geared up for that and they have so many issues to sort out with the game. So close to greatness but yet ... so far.
X : Multiplayer? Third person perspective?
Me : If you want to waste time, I'm sure some will be glad. They need to build out the immersion aspect, the story, fix the AI, fix ... oh, gosh ... so much. But the potential is there to build something truly amazing. Won't be easy.
X : Are your maps disposable?
Me : Eh? Odd question. Maps are imperfect representations of a space, they are a perception of what exists. That perception has value in a pre-mortem, post mortem fashion.

... it doesn't matter that the map is imperfect, it's what we use to learn from. It's how we made better geographical maps. We didn't start with ordinance survey maps.

... the recruiters make money on every shift. It has nothing to do with your ability / capability for the role, it's just if you don't have a job then you break the chain and are less attractive to the recruitment company.

Me : Nope. I got bored being a CEO, being a CIO, being a VP ... I get bored easily. Research is fun, hard and always interesting. Why?

Me : Hmmm ... I sense an agenda. But why would I do that?

Me : No, I could replace research with more management and the team would do more research. That doesn't sound fun.
... so instead, I keep a lot of my stuff open and create a community which I help guide towards self management. It enables more research into mapping whilst creating interesting discussion points and minimising my need to do any management or leadership thing, Perfect.
