Recent sudden deaths highlights risk of heart attack #PostCovid. Points to know: 1. Relative Risk of heart/brain attack 2-3X for 3 months postcovid. 2. All those with heart disease and those with risk factors(Diabetes,High BP) need stringent control of BP, diabetes& cholesterol
3. Aspirin and statins may also be useful in high risk individuals but not for all as the absolute risk for the majority is low and thus the number needed to treat to prevent one event maybe high and thus exposing low risk individuals to side effects of the drug.
4. Thus #postcovid care should focus on heart health as much as respiratory rehabilitation esp in those with moderate and severe Covid with risk factors for heart disease.
5. Also some sudden deaths maybe clotting of lung vessels. This could be prevented with use of low dose anticoagulation for 6 weeks if d-dimer levels more than twice in consultation with your doctor 6. Lastly healthy lifestyle-NO tobacco, nutritious diet, exercise/ meditation..
