#UyghurTribunal Day 4: An anonymous PRC former camp guard is giving key testimony from Germany, where he has been given asylum. He testifies that all #Uyghurs are treated as political prisoners (terrorists, enemies of the state), also that "the rules are different in #Xinjiang".
Describes torture methods designed to extract confessions: beating; inserting a pipe down the throat to fill the lungs with water [=waterboarding], insertion of electric rod into penis sheath; food deprivation and taunting of prisoners with food they were not permitted to eat etc
Torturers learned what to do by watching others administer torture. He confirms he "saw prisoners go mad or crazy" as a result of torture.
The purpose of this "inhuman degrading treatment" and "cruelty" was to achieve the purpose of forcing obedience / allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party. All Uyghurs perceived as pursuing agenda of splitting the country, opposing the Party.
"The CCP act like they're the Emperor in that region [#Xinjiang]"..."When I became a soldier, my dream was to serve my country, my people... but when I saw how the system worked, I realised I was actually serving the Emperor, a fascist regime ruling a country in a most cruel way"
#Uyghur fact witness now testifying to 3 monthly family planning checks carried out on women in his and nearby villages in #Xinjiang, and abortions of 8 month old foetuses. One woman subsequently died in the process. He confirms he attended her funeral.
The babies were killed in the local public hospital. Anyone could see it.
Witness also testifying to torture while in prison. Guards said to him "F**k your father, f**k your mother, you're not a human, you're just a slave". His sons were also imprisoned for "being too religious".
Researcher Adrian Zenz, demonstrating state intent to genocide in Uyghur, areas of Xinjiang,*at least in part*
Here euphemismed as "optimisation of the regional population structure". "High ethnic minority population concentrations (in Xinjiang) create a dangerous sense of identification with their (the Uyghur) homeland"- Han Chinese academic Li Xiaoxia, 2017.
Hence the Chinese state imperative to "end the dominance of the Uyghur ethnic group" in the frontier region #Xinjiang.
PRC scholar Li Ming (2019): need to increase "scope of positive energy" in #Xinjiang (= Han population) to 80-90% and decrease scope of negative energy (allegedly "extremist" #Uyghur population) to 3-7%.
A calculation of "Destruction in part":
Expert witness: "Policy recommendations reached by PRC scholars understandable as synonymous with state intent in so far as many Chinese scholars are also high level CCP members while their institutions are often closely affiliated to the govt, e.g. Chinese Academy of Sciences"
Meanwhile, Xi Jinping's recent exhortations to "optimise the population structure" in #Xinjiang *use many of the same concepts and terms* employed in those PRC scholars' research papers which recommend strategic recalibration of regional population ratios.
From Sir Geoffrey Nice QC's closing remarks: "Truth seeking requires the detailed testing of witnesses at all times ... Questions may be asked of the PRC between now and September (it has not so far responded) ... the Uyghur Tribunal website remains open for contributions."
I'd like to share the full Press Statement I released yesterday, concerning the sanction China imposed on me for research documenting the genocide against #Uyghurs in #Xinjiang. (1)
"I learned in the early hours of [26 March] via social media outlet Twitter that I have been sanctioned by the PRC (Chinese) government for ongoing research speaking the truth about human rights violations against Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims in Xinjiang, Northwest China; (2)
"in short, for having a conscience and standing up for social justice. That the Chinese authorities should resort to imposing sanctions on UK politicians, legal chambers, and a sole academic is disappointing, depressing and wholly counter-productive. (3)
