The Socio-Economic K Curve

The rich & priviledged keep getting opportunities that they keep capitalising on.
The poor never get those opportunities and keep getting dragged in the day to day challenges. The socio-economic divide keeps getting wider & wider.
The poor works for the rich - the driver, servants, maids, office boys. They observe the rich capitalising on such opportunities, enjoying their lives, while they struggle.
I remember once, in my corporate office days, my team had arranged back to back client meetings. We went into a meeting at BKC, Mumbai. The driver dropped us, couldn't find parking nearby, went to distant parking lot...and dozed off!
We stepped out of our meeting, called him, he didn't pick. I kept calling him in the peak heat in the afternoon, my colleagues kept looking for the car at the regular parking lots.

Finally, after some 10 odd minutes (felt like 30, in the sun), we decided to take a cab as we were desperately getting late for the next meeting.
Eventually, my driver woke up. Must have panicked seeing so many missed calls from me & my colleagues, started calling me frantically.
His calls kept disturbing, an already boiling me, during my next meeting. My colleague stepped out of teh meeting and called him, giving directions to our location.
When we stepped out, I yelled at him, in front of all my colleagues. It was lunch time, hunger compounded the emotions.
We all got in the car...started voting for our lunch venue.

During the lunch, discussion came up about holidaying & travel. The discussion continued as we got back in our car and headed to our next meeting.

I gave him an earful. Almost immediately, we got into discussing our lavish lunch and holiday destinations!
Atleast a 100 times, since that day, I feel like shit about what happened.
Vishwas, my driver, was a dependable driver, as his name suggests. I started using a driver in 2005...Vishwas. He was the only driver I used all the way till 2016, when I quit job.
He was very reliable and loyal. I was very supportive of him - sponsored his daughter's education, his health insurance. Even when I asked him to leave, I helped him get an Uber car. He has many times said to various people that I was very kind hearted...
...and yet, I had no right to scream on him like this, in the middle of the road. My heart still sinks, as I write this.
All the kindness I offered him, gave me a right and him an obligation to let that happen.
Almost everyday, we carry on enjoying our lives, offering our kids and ourselves the best of opportunities. All this, as our driver, maids, office boys, slogging to keep our lives running seamlessly, while going through their struggles.
The socio-economic K Curve is very disturbing. The least we can do is to show empathy!

Cooperation vs Competition
It is very natural to believe that to be successful in life, you need to be very competitive...beat others to dust. It is also natural to draw inspiration from sports where only way to win is by beating others. Like Chess!
This belief gets strength from the prevailing education & job system where you have to compete, beat others to qualify for entrance into the coveted educational institutes, land dream jobs in dream companies, get promoted etc.

The Subconscious You is the real You!

You are good & improving, if the subconscious you is good & improving. That's why it should be a persistent endeavour of the Conscious You to persistently learn and pass on the wisdom to the Subconscious You.
Your learning stays in the sub conscious and on most occasions, helps you with different aspects of life - relationships, success, investing etc.

The super achievers in any field talks about the behavioural/subconscious powers.
At times, the Conscious You pass on the wrong lessons. Or even if the lessons were right in some context, they are incongruous in some other contexts. In such times, the subconscious minds creates some obstacles that prevents you from achieving success you wish for.

An inefficient reader reads superficially, without making any notes, without connecting any dots (fast) & does so by reading at a painfully slow pace such that he gets lost in the details, misses the context, takes months to finish it or even leaves it incomplete (slow).
This leaves him disheartened. He wants to read, but his inefficiency in reading comes in his way. He quickly forms an opinion that he can't read...and that reading is done by some super intelligent sons of greater God!

Performance is a complex function of ability and psychology.

Ability is cumulative - it adds on prior base like your belly fat 🥳
It is like a Fixed Deposit....keeps accumulating.
Psychology is cyclical. It meanders from low (lower than your ability justifies/underconfidence) to high (higher than your ability justifies/overconfidence)
Positive feedback or performance boosts your morale. This raises your future performances, leading to more success. Till you reach a stage of overconfidence in your abilities and meet failure.
