Building on this one... I am going to analyse each of the German political parties' current slogans based on this

Maybe I am just numbed by bad slogans in German political communication by now?

Detail in the 🧵
CDU
Alles, was wir tun, tun wir #wegenmorgen.

Everything we are doing we're doing because of tomorrow.

Opposite:
Everything we are doing we're doing because of yesterday.

Parties based on nostalgia do work, so this passes, just.

(From cdu.de )
CSU
Die Ordnung.

The order.

Opposite:
The disorder.

Makes no sense. Fail.

(from their basic program: csu-grundsatzprogramm.de - main CSU site has no slogan)
SPD
Aus Respekt für deiner Zukunft

Out of respect for your future

Opposite:
Out of respect for your past
- or -
Out of disrespect for your future

Does anyone disrespect the future? No. Fails I think.

(main slogan on spd.de )
SPD
Soziale Politik für Dich

Social politics for You

Opposite:
Free market politics for You
- or -
Social politics for others

This one is OK I think

(next to the logo on spd.de )
Grüne
Die Zukunft änderst Du hier

You change the future here

Opposite:
You don't change the future here

This one is OK - it's the opposite of conservativism

(main slogan on gruene.de )
Grüne
Deutschland. Alles ist drin.

Germany. It's all in here.

Opposite:
Germany. It's not all in here.

This is just weird. Fail.

(title of the Grüne election program: cms.gruene.de/uploads/docume… )
FDP
Nie gab es mehr zu tun

There has never been more to do

Opposite:
There has never been less to do

This is a fail. Even conservatives would never say that!

(title of FDP election program fdp.de/bundestagswahl… )
Die Linke
Jetzt! Machen wir das Land gerecht

Now! We will make the country fair

Opposite:
Now! We will make the country unfair

Also a fail. No one is ever going to be against fairness, at least in rhetoric

(main slogan on Die Linke site: die-linke.de/start/ )
AfD
Deutschland. Aber normal.

Germany. But normal.

Opposite:
Germany. But abnormal.

This is a fail as well.

(slogan for the AfD election campaign afd.de/wahlprogramm/ )

Today I embark on a new bicycle tour project… #GrenzeBerlinOst

This is a sort of counterpart of the well known Berliner #Mauerweg I recently finished - a cycle path that encircles the old West Berlin berlin.de/mauer/en/wall-…
My #GrenzeBerlinOst route follows the border between what was East Berlin and the neighbouring state of Brandenburg

I doubt anyone has tried to cycle this, and it’s definitely not signposted!
I’ve mapped the route in 6 stages on Komoot here: komoot.com/user/189774755…

🚨 Try these at your peril at the moment - I’ve not done them yet! 🚨

I’ll update the maps once I’ve done them

So, for anyone nuts enough to try, I now think I know how to do Berlin-Belgrade by 🚅, during the easing of COVID restrictions...

Good news: you can do it for €48,19 single when I need to go (not a typo!) but if you want a bed in the night train it gets horribly costly!

🧵
The CHEAP but not very comfortable route

Berlin-Budapest overnight train, but in a seat (no sleeping car because of COVID)
Then Budapest-Subotica-Novi Sad by train
Novi Sad-Belgrade by bus

Trip time: 27hrs
€48,19 single Image
The COMFORTABLE but expensive route

Berlin-Vienna by NightJet, single compartment sleeping car
Then Vienna-Budapest-Subotica-Novi Sad by train
Novi Sad-Belgrade by bus

Trip time: 27hrs
€238,09 single Image

A client in Belgrade 🇷🇸 is pushing me to actually attend their event in person at the end of June...

I'll write about the whole effort to book this at some point, but just one part is so ridiculous it deserves a 🧵 of its own

Why railways can't fix this is 🤯
The part of the trip here uniquely concerns the Kraków Główny 🇵🇱 - Budapest Keleti 🇭🇺 night train - EN 407 / 477

(Tangent: yes, I know this isn't the most logical train to take, but I have to, as other viable services aren't running)

Here's the connection from DB's website
Does it have a sleeping car?

At the moment, due to COVID, where DB lists sleeping cars as running is not always accurate, but Vagonweb thinks it does

It's been nagging at me for a long time...

Something is *wrong* with this 9th term of the European Parliament?

So I've tried to assemble my thoughts into a blog post
jonworth.eu/whats-up-with-…

Summary in the thread...
In the 2 years since the 2019 EP elections I think the EP has struggled for 5 reasons

1️⃣ The result of the EP election itself - now you need 3 groups for a majority (was 2 before), and the turnover of MEPs was the highest ever - 58% new MEPs
2️⃣ von der Leyen being imposed by the European Council was a hit for the EP. The EPP would sooner have had Weber, or Timmermans or Vestager, than von der Leyen

To those saying the EU is too weak or divided to do anything about the Belarus regime... let’s stop and ask: what could the EU do?

A quick 🧵
The EU could impose further sanctions on Lukashenko and his allies

Morally sound. Impact probably minimal. Not going to force him out, as Russia still backs him
Impose a set of wider sanctions on Belarus overall

This is more messy. It’ll hurt ordinary people - might that help them rise up to overthrow the regime? Looks unlikely

I am not sure this is #COVID connected (perhaps people don't need their cars?) but there seem to be a lot of abandoned cars on Berlin streets...

All my 📷 in a thread

Fiat van in Neukölln, so filled with garbage it is not even possible to drive this one ImageImage
