After we march on Manchin in WV on #MoralMonday 6/14, West Virginians & Kentuckians of all races & creeds will come by bus on 6/23 to lead a justice action to the Russell Bldg, in Washington, DC, where we will have a march, rally & direct action to challenge McConnell & Manchin
for using the filibuster now as Russell did before—to block legislation that would make a government of the people & for the people. We will be asking others to join in this day of action in DC. The filibuster has always been used to prevent the expansion of democracy,
blocking voting rights, living wages, infrastructure, etc. These are not just "Black issues." They are justice issues, poor people’s issues, labor issues, women’s issues, environmental issues, LGBTQ issues, DEMOCRACY ISSUES.
What McConnell & Manchin are doing is preventing a government that works for the people. It’s just wrong.

Civil rights leaders must remember the people want restoration of the VRA and the For The People Act. Do not let Manchin off the hook and claim if he supports the VRA it’s a victory. No, it’s a trick.
The VRA is going to face heavy challenges from Republicans. All the bills passed before the VRA passed would not have to gone through pre-clearance. If we don’t get the For The People Act then these things will be lost.
The For the People Act, which has already passed the Democratic-controlled House, would bar states from limiting voting by mail, would require prepaid postage on absentee ballots, and would mandate voter registration on the same day as the election.

Joe Manchin is so twisted. We need both the For The People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. He knows the VRA is going to be challenged and is a target for the Republicans. And if he wanted to pass the VRA, why for 8 years has he not done anything to pass it?
What an insult, as well, to publish this right before his so-called private meeting with the NAACP. He drops this oped? It took nonviolent direct action to win voting rights, and it will take the same to do it today.

Manchin keeps talking about compromise and bipartisanship. It makes no sense. How do you compromise with the very party that's doing the things the For The People Act would make illegal? How do you compromise with politicians who want to suppress the vote?

Back in February, faith leaders & poor & low-wage people, Black and white from West Virginia’s Poor People’s Campaign met w/ Manchin. He talked a good talk, but he refused to say he’d support living wages, voting rights & end the filibuster.

I'm glad @DerrickNAACP is having a mtg w/ Manchin. Soon everyone will have met the criteria for nonviolent direct action, & we can perhaps unify & put street pressure on Manchin & Sinema to do what they don't yet want to do.
That’s how we got the voting rights & union rights we have now in the first place. What makes anybody think we won’t have to do the same things to keep these rights & expand these rights today?

With the local district attorney & sheriff’s office refusing to be transparent in this case, North Carolinians have no choice but to raise our voices & keep the pressure on local, state, & federal authorities to bring #JusticeForAndrewBrown
