FIRST AID TREATMENT FOR GUNSHOT INJURY

If someone is shot while protesting, use these 10 tips to save their life urgently!

{A thread dedicated to #June12thProtest protesters in Ikeja, Lagos, Benin, Abuja, Port Harcourt & everywhere} #KeepitOn!

Retweet widely 🙏
Follow these steps to save a gunshot victim from dying;

1. Secure your own safety first!
2. Send a brief SOS call to alert others.
3. Look for any source of bleeding, you can remove victim's clothing if necessary
#June12thProtest #KeepitOn
4. Stop the bleeding with pressure - if no medical supplies, cover wound with clot, shirt, scarf, etc
5. Keep pressing down hard on the bleeding area with both hands. Press & press!
6. If injury is very deep, press the cloth into it to pack the wound
#June12thProtest #KeepitOn
7. If a trauma kit is available and the gunshot injury is on the leg or hand, pull a tourniquet tight around the person's arm or leg ABOVE THE WOUND!
8. Elevate the injured limb above the rest of the body!
#June12thProtest #KeepitOn
9. If victim is already losing consciousness or you can't feel their heart beat anymore, start CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) with chest compressions & rescue breaths.
See my previous test here;.
#June12thProtest #KeepitOn
10. While you're doing all these, others around should be making fast arrangements to move victim to the nearest medical facility!!
#June12thProtest #KeepitOn
Never panic in front of a gunshot victim. Keep reassuring them that they'll be fine. Being/looking too anxious or nervous can make things worse for them emotionally! Never, panic...
Just save their lives with these tips!
#June12thProtest #KeepitOn
Death from gunshot injury is mainly due to blood loss from torn blood vessels/muscles, or damage to vital organs like the heart or brain.

About 4 to 8 minutes of bleeding from a penetrating gunshot injury can be fatal.
#June12thProtest #KeepitOn
So if you can stop help the victim stop the bleeding before medical care arrives, you might actually save that person's life.

Dear men,
Mental health doesn't respect gender

- crying is ok
- asking for help is ok
- showing emotion is ok
- talking about your feelings is ok
- discussing your mental health is ok

"Man up?" Forget that phrase. Many have died in silence because of that.
Speak up!

Retweet..
Men can be hurt too.
Men have emotions too.
Men can be heart broken too.

So many expectations on you from the family and society. Yet nobody cares how you're really faring because you should be a "man".

Then they tell you to "man up", because you're suppose to be a superhuman!
That's one reason so many men are depressed; because they're supposed to "man up".

Hush that lie. Speak up. You're a human being too.

There's nothing wrong with expressing your emotions to let out some heat.

Take care of your mental health. Don't die in silence.

Dear public,
There's a resurgence of "ice water" in Abia and some other places due to the high prices of sachet water.

Below are some health effects of ice water and what you can do about them.

Retweet for public awareness
First, drinking excessively cold water can affect your gut and digestion. For e.g., it may contract your blood vessels, restrict digestion and interfere with the natural process of absorbing nutrients from the food you eat.
Next is the way it is packaged. It is highly unlikely that ice water, which is mostly wrapped in polythene sacks under unwholesome conditions, is either safe for drinking or free of germs.

LET'S TALK ABOUT CHOKING

The powerful photo below gives a stark warning to parents and caregivers over the dangers of choking.

For this little child, #echoke for real because she died after swallowing a peanut that got lodged in her airway!

A thread 🧵

RT to create awareness
Choking and suffocation happen when something blocks a person’s airway and prevents breathing.

This is a leading cause of death among children, especially those younger than 4 years.
Some kids, like the 7-year-old in the story below have choked on doritos chips and died in their mothers' arms while playing a prank!

Avoid wearing high heels often.

These X-Ray pictures show how you exert great pressure on the bones of your feet when you wear steep high heels.

Wearing them too often can increase your risk of pain, blisters, bone degeneration, and osteoarthritis.

Retweet.. ImageImage
The joints in your knees or foot can become arthritic if you wear high heels too much.

The reason is that while standing or walking, the pressure and imbalance caused by the heels can make the cartilage in your knee and foot joints to wear down over time. Image

Some people don't breastfeed but discharge milk from their nipples especially when touched.

This is known as galactorrhea!

It's not a disease on it's own, but it could be a symptom of an underlying problem.

A thread 🧵

Please RT for awareness
There's a chemical or hormone in your body known as Prolactin. It is responsible for stimulating breast milk production.

The hormone is made by a bean-shaped organ called the Pituitary gland.

This gland is found in the brain of both men and women.
Anything that causes too much prolactin to be produced can lead to breast milk discharge or galactorrhea, both in men and women.
