Unfortunate remnant of our British past
In UK even today the ED is called "Casualty"
The term Casualty in India has negative connotations
As we have been trained with American based books and protocols we are more used to the term Emergency Medicine Department or ED
In India historically and in many places to date "Casualty" was staffed by junior inexperienced freshly graduated MBBS doctors who were poorly trained in emergency situations. They were employed with minimal pay and for these doctors it was a chance to gain soke experience.
Now that emergency medicine has become a recognised specialty in India we need to educate the general public of the change and that ED docs are now well trained to handle all emergency cases. Unfortunately this is still a growing specialty. And the awareness is only spreading.
Even older senior doctors of other specialities are hesitant to recognise ED specialists or the ED as a department as such.
When fellow doctors do this how should the general public behave?
We need to educate our colleagues first. Our friends and family.
When I started in this specialty my own family asked me "what is the difference between you and a paramedic?"
Only when my family saw me deal with an emergency in the middle of a family event did they realise what I do.
So yes we want a change & so changing the name from Casualty to Emergency Medicine is a good start
I agree
Side note
The other issue is while our spoken language is influenced by British past
Our medical education is predominantly American based. Especially emergency protocols.
BLS/ACLS and Heart Attack guidelines are from American Heart Association AHA
Stroke guidelines from American Stoke Association ASA
Accidents and trauma management from ATLS guidelines which are made by the American College of Surgeons
Sepsis guidelines from American College of Physicians
Etc etc etc

Some people are on social media just to get a few likes/shares/retweets etc
They will give up their integrity and dignity to say the most vile things
All in the aim of getting the online attention they so desperately crave to substitute their pathetic offline lives
For the rest of us who have a lot IRL social media is just an "escape"
A means to take a break maybe connect with some "online buddies"
None of this online stuff should ever be taken seriously. This isn't real life. Real life is out there. Just look above your screen
I find it fascinating how some people are so disgusted with their own lives that it seems their only distraction is to try and spread hate to others online. And it frustrates them even more that if you disengage from their antics. Treat them kindly and it enrages them.
1. Objective truth
This is what is proved by science. Whether you believe it or not it is scientific fact. It has faced numerous testing, experiments & has been proved to be true by multiple people across the world using different methods & materials yet coming to same result.
Government policies should ONLY be made as per objective truths. No place for pseudoscientific mumbo jumbo. We go where the science takes us. Where the evidence takes us.
Rapid sequence intubation (RSI) is an airway management technique that produces inducing immediate unresponsiveness (induction agent) and muscular relaxation (neuromuscular blocking agent) & is the fastest & most effective means of controlling the emergency airway.
RSI is particularly useful in the patient with an intact gag reflex, a “full” stomach, and a life threatening injury or illness requiring immediate airway control
Some people also call this as "Drug assisted Intubation"
‘modified’ RSI is a term sometimes used to describe variations on the ‘classic’ RSI approach (e.g. ventilation during apnea, titration of induction agents);
"The dictate that one 'not speak ill of the dead' is (at best) appropriate for private individuals, not influential public figures.
While the supporters of this person will rightfully feel aggrieved the opponents equally have their right to react how they please."
So enough with the moral high horse shithousery
People can say what they want about him
That's their right
And people can abuse each other for it
That's what social media is for isn't it?
Personally it makes no difference to me what happened to him except for one tiny point.
A very simple point really
I just want to emphasize that
1%
Those 1% are people who were loved or hated
People who meant something to someone
Remember that the next time you decide to spew the 1% bullshit in your propaganda
At least let that be the good that comes from his death
